Funnily enough for me it seems to have been the opposite. Most people I spoke to in the late 2010s / early ‘20s were very skeptical of machine learning and most ML pipelines were written off as fancy regexes or similar. Now ime people broadly recognize a utility in ML that they don’t see in genAI.

I don’t have one of these myself but my understanding is that the standard means to do this is to use a 3D scanner, eg store.creality.com/products/cre...
There’s also apps to do this that are much cheaper but are less accurate.
