My big revenue raiser is that any retiree who complains about paying 20p of tax on their state pension gets their personal allowance halved each time they complain about it. If we get the waspis onto it they’ll have no personal allowance left in no time at all. Just need to give them 20 years

By the way watch them bottle this and end up introducing that f*ckwit Tory policy of the quadruple lock whereby the tax free allowance only goes up for retirees so that you don’t pay any income tax on the basic state pension.

But they’ll have to start paying income tax on the state pension, this is a tragic state of affairs, they’ve paid in all their lives and shouldn’t have to pay any tax at all

I can thankfully think of no geopolitical events that would lead to the uk needing to cut off the supply of those students. In totally unrelated news I hear Taipei is great to visit this time of year

Especially given that many of those institutions that are most at risk of going pop are one of if not the biggest skilled employers in their local economies

But you don’t understand, the forecasts came in and now they don’t need to do that, because building extra headroom would be silly. Thankfully 15B in the context of over 1000B spending is large enough to be immune to say interest rates increasing unexpectedly

Listened recently to the polhome podcast on council tax, you had Dan Neidle quite rightly ripping the thing to bits and correctly pointing out how it needs long term fixing. Followed by whoever was the Tory MP going “but that’s difficult and some voters won’t like it”, it’s your job do those things1

Like was it not obvious even pre the pandemic hitting when they started going 40 new* hospitals (new may mean building a carpark or extending a wing) that promises they’d been elected on weren’t going to be kept?

Look they only needed to build a hospital every 1.5 months for a full length parliament to keep to their promises. They said it couldn’t be done, they were right, honestly great call.

It’s ignored because that cohort can remember their parents/grandparents having retirements with far larger levels of poverty than now. Public perceptions of OAP poverty are about 20-30 years behind the current reality

Yup, though if I remember correctly he’d been misled as a child that it was changed to escape from the Nazis as opposed to being changed to assimilate more and face less antisemitism in the UK
