Tonight I'm doing Radio Astronomy, but right now I wish I had my Optical Telescope set up... too bad the light pollution in this region is really hard to predict. Also the currently MetOP-B and Meteor2-3 are right behind each other... really hard to get anything from them

I‘d love to turn to some geostationary sats now, but there are no geostationary L-Band sats I can receive.
I‘m now looking to build an X-Band antenna…

First you boil the CPU, then you polish and then you take some pretty images.
This is how you get a nice CPU die shot in a SEM.
Never would I have guessed that removing the silicon die requires two hot air stations and a hot bed.
(Don‘t worry the CPU is 15 years old)

A while back I built a little Schlieren imaging setup that worked reasonably well, albeit with a healthy amount of chromatic aberrations.
But now, it‘s time for upgrades.
A proper Optical bench and a laser source. The first results are amazing, time to do some interference Schlieren.

This is my first attempt at designing PCBs and I must say I‘m rather proud of the results. Most importantly: They worked right away! No more perfboard solder madness. And if you’re wondering, I might have overspeced that diode… first attempts eh

Ok so I‘ve been cooking a lot lately, but I suck at posting.
And by cooking I mean melting Aluminium. Even with a rather rudimentary setup you can get some nice results.
Next up I wanna know what exact aluminium we got off the scrap yard. So look forward to some spectral spark analysis! #casting

My material science collection is growing! Now it includes a Block of Inconel and a silicon wafer. The other metal sheet is titanium, with my fursona engraved onto it. (Assortment of tungsten and steels not pictured)

Ever wondered what tensile testing does to material on a microscopic scale? Cause I have, and here are the SEM pics I got to answer my questions.
Some of these could be album covers.
(The first two images are S235 Steel the third is some Heat treated AlCuMgPb and the last is C45 steel)
