If his substack had more specifics on how he’d stay engaged I’d be less bummed, but I hated the Politico framing and I don’t really see it for 2028 unless he does some big bold things that miraculously keep him in the mix versus electeds already going on town hall tours.

Huh? This is not true.

Republicans care about winning elections. Thats it. If supporting Trump became toxic to their election prospects, they would stop doing that. There is no quick solve for that. The work of winning elections takes time and persuasion and includes all the things you already said.

I thought it was a fine speech to counter Trump even if I didn’t agree rhetorically with my preferred political framing, though SOTU counters have never been broadly watched by a lot of people so I’m not sure it matters. What did you think?
