It might be a tad early in his career but Fine and Fancy Arms by Gordon B White. Leaning into the loose folky nature of Manly Wade Wellman not horror as such, just quirky and light hearted. It resonates through his other works like Bury My Bones in the Bastard that Killed Me and Saint Giorgio.

For me it’s Joel Lane. I’ve had the pleasure of reading some incredible short story collections but I always return to ‘Where Furnaces Burn.’
