But seriously, the grandpappy of this idea that everything fun in Christianity that isn't in the bible must obviously be pagan is Sir James George Frazer in his book the Golden Bough.

I mean, you're telling me some meme I saw on facebook isn't a credible source?
November 26, 2025 at 1:59 AM
God be with you, kiddo.
November 26, 2025 at 1:58 AM
Look, kiddo, you're cleary determined to think the worst of me, and I am just too cynical to bother arguing away what you imagine I am arguing. Keep reading the torah, I promise it isn't supposed to make you so bitter and angry. God go with you.
November 26, 2025 at 1:55 AM
I get the joke, but it was clearly meant to be a dismissive insult so what are we even objecting to here?
November 26, 2025 at 1:53 AM
When have I lied? Cite the words.
November 26, 2025 at 1:49 AM
Still no idea what you're talking about. But I do apologize again for saying Jews there is one God who cares about all people. I now understand that not all Jews believe this.
November 26, 2025 at 1:48 AM
I tend to me civil to people whoa are civil to me. But I'll make an exception to my rule and be civil enough to not say how you're treating me.
November 26, 2025 at 1:43 AM
I made a generalization about Jews. Jews corrected me and I corrected myself. What else, exactly, do you want?
November 26, 2025 at 1:42 AM
^?????
November 26, 2025 at 1:36 AM
Well, that is what I assumed the general belief was among Jews--you don't have to be Jewish to be a righteous God-fearer. But apparently a lot this rabbi's followers take ferocious umbrage at that idea.
November 26, 2025 at 1:35 AM
No it isn't, but I do suspect people are just assuming that is what I mean without me saying anything of the sort.
November 26, 2025 at 1:32 AM
I am a priest. I study them practically every day.
November 26, 2025 at 1:30 AM
I was definitely generalizing. Sorry.
November 26, 2025 at 1:29 AM
Also it's weird that your accusing me of initiating this conversation when you could have just scrolled up to see the OP that was a rabbi addressing Christians. I apologize for thinking I had a right to respond when Christians are addressed.
November 26, 2025 at 1:28 AM
Yup. What you see as smugness was in fact me just taking it for granted that Jews believe there is only one God who cares about all people. Again, I apologize for making that generalization.
November 26, 2025 at 1:26 AM
Of course not. I did think it was unusual for Jews to not believe there is only one God who cares about all people. Again, the people here have corrected my mistake.
November 26, 2025 at 1:24 AM
Nah. But it doesn't matter since I don't really care so long as we talk about actual ideas.
November 26, 2025 at 1:22 AM
You are free to believe that God doesn't care about people who have mistaken theology. I am free to believe Hashem cares even about mistaken people.
November 26, 2025 at 1:21 AM
I'll learn about Hashem all I want. And I did not initiate this conversation.
November 26, 2025 at 1:19 AM
In fact, the general sentiment was that Jews monolithically believe that God only cares about Jews.
November 26, 2025 at 1:18 AM
I tend to be civil to people who have been civil to me, and people here have not been civil.

And I also admit that I believe Gd knows when mistaken people are trying their best to obey his Word. You're free to conclude otherwise.
November 26, 2025 at 1:18 AM
I now understand that some Jews don't believe there is only one God who cares about all humankind. I apologize for that generalization. Anything else you feel I've actually said that you feel I should apologize for?
November 26, 2025 at 1:15 AM
Nah. People have been dickheads and you don't want to see that because it gets in the way of your victim narrative.
November 26, 2025 at 1:14 AM
We have our disagreements to be sure.I like to think the God of the tanakh knows when people are trying their best to obey his commandments. But, as another Jew on this thread screamed at me, God only cares about you if you "appease" him with the right rituals. His words.
