I'm not saying don't protest. But recent history would suggest that the way leftists protest and message are not good enough. They don't work, they don't achieve anything. So yea, maybe our methods of "resistance" aren't proper enough
June 9, 2025 at 11:17 PM
I'm saying they're not very plugged in and overly susceptible to the visual imagery of what's happening. And that they don't care whether or not these people are proud of their Mexican heritage, but will respond to the idea of cops abusing Americans
June 9, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Well I operate in the real world, where the reality is that images of cops fighting American flag waving protesters helps the left and images of cops fighting Mexican flag waving protesters helps the right.

It is what it is, man. It sucks. But that's the reality of where we are.
June 9, 2025 at 9:27 PM
If you're trying to make the visual point that these are Americans being abused by cops, then fly the American flag.

If you want to argue against nobody that you're a proud Hispanic, while also visually bolstering the bs messaging from the right, keep flying the Mexican flag. It is what it is.
June 9, 2025 at 9:25 PM
Yes, the people on the right absolutely do. Again, we're talking about the message that average, centrists Americans are getting.

They don't hate being a multicultural country. But they're being told that these are hostile, illegal immigrants that need to be deported.

The images help that argument
June 9, 2025 at 9:19 PM
I totally get why they want to fly Mexican flags. That doesn't make it sound messaging for what the current issue/moment is. In fact, as I've been saying, it's actually supporting the bullshit narrative coming from the right
June 9, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Nobody is arguing that they aren't Hispanic. You're not countermessaging anyone with that.

This is about whether or not the National Guard has been deployed against Americans, and whether or not these immigrants deserve to be here.

Images of the crowd waving Mexican flags only serves to help R's
June 9, 2025 at 9:15 PM
Sure, some of them. And now they have images of crowds waving a foreign flag fighting against the Narional Guard to bolster and further spread that narrative
June 9, 2025 at 9:11 PM
Republicans have already started shifting from "they don't belong here / deserve to be here" into "hostile Mexican adversaries have invaded the US"

If that's their message, images of crowds waving Mexican flags fighting the National Guard supports that message, too.
June 9, 2025 at 9:08 PM
You don't beat fascist rhetoric by actively supporting it with the images you create, either.

Using American flags not only cuts their messaging at the knees, but supports the protesters arguments of "they belong here" and "the US is abusing its own people"
June 9, 2025 at 9:06 PM
Again, because Republicans kicked our ass on messaging around inflation
June 9, 2025 at 7:31 PM
Power. We don't need that many Republicans, plenty of which represent purple districts, to publicly acknowledge this for what it is and to help stop it.

But we need those purple voters to pressure them, first. To do that, we need an effective counter to Republican messaging.
June 9, 2025 at 7:30 PM
All of you who don't think proper, effective messaging is a powerful tool that Republicans are significantly better at. All of you who can't see that flying the Mexican flag is playing into their narrative.

So, however many of you fall into that group are morons
June 9, 2025 at 7:27 PM
The administration probably won't anyways, but we need ppl to see what's happening for what it really is. We need significantly larger protests, the kinds that House Republicans will actually respond to.

If we're going to stop this, we need a few Republican representatives
June 9, 2025 at 7:25 PM
Which I'm sure they will, but this isn't about how they vote in 2026 and 2028 this is about them seeing what's happening for what it really is. If a majority of Americans are buying the Republican narrative, there's no incentive for them to stop
June 9, 2025 at 7:24 PM
The message isn't "these brown people are good ones", the message is "they belong here"

Republicans are asserting they're not Americans and don't deserve the same rights. The simplest way to visually counter that is US flags. Images sway people. Mexican flags play into Republican messaging.
June 9, 2025 at 7:21 PM
She got less votes than Joe. Some of that was her not having a full campaign cycle to nail down a good message to voters thanks to Joe, some of that was her running too much on "trump sucks", and yes some of that was protest non-votes.

I'm not sure which was the biggest factor but all played a part
June 9, 2025 at 7:19 PM
Right, and now that it's happening, Republicans are trying to justify it with their messaging/narrative that Californians are playing into
June 9, 2025 at 7:16 PM
We're not trying to appease the Republicans, though. We're messaging to average Americans who aren't super plugged in. Which, again, very easy to digest the Republican messaging if all they see is a bunch of Mexican flags. It's a significantly harder pill to swallow if it's US flags
June 9, 2025 at 7:14 PM
I grew up in Missouri, man. Went to school in rural, southern MO. I also know plenty of those people. I'm friends with true centrists. You absolutely have a bastardized view of them.

And FWIW, they didn't vote for *this* the trump administration lied and said they'd only target criminals
June 9, 2025 at 7:08 PM
Dems ran on "see, even these guys hate trump" that was the problem. The message was "trump sucks" which was never effective.

Kamala also lost because people refused to vote b/c of Gaza. Lot of good those no-votes did for Palestinians, btw. Congrats, nothing changed AND we've lost cancer research
June 9, 2025 at 7:07 PM
Democrat voters also suck at messaging. "Defund the police" was a horrible, stupid slogan that almost nobody in poor, black communities actually supported. It was mostly upper middle class white people who thought they were doing good
June 9, 2025 at 7:05 PM
They had no means of countering the messaging.

But they certainly didn't **play into the messaging** from Nazis, like Californians waving Mexican flags are playing into Republican messaging. They're shooting themselves in the foot while cops shooting them in the face
June 9, 2025 at 7:01 PM
FWIW Kamala actually did a good job during the one, single televised debate that she had.

Thats why Trump refused to do more debates. His team knew they had already won the messaging war, and more debates would only make it worse.

You have such a bastardized view of centrists. They're ill-informed
June 9, 2025 at 6:59 PM
Because they genuinely believed that he'd lower costs and save them money. Because Republicans effectively positioned immigrants as people who don't belong here. Joe and Kamala didn't do a good job messaging their platform. Joe didn't help.

Democrats suck at messaging, they have for decades.
