Happy Halloween!

It is October. I live in the Northern hemisphere. And one of my rhododendrons has decided to start blooming. Mind you, it already bloomed this spring. None of the others are doing this. Very strange.

Meine Güte, wie einfallsarm diese "Oma-Hobby"-Schlagzeilen immer sind, besonders was Handarbeiten betrifft (betreffen?). Senior*innen werden so gut, WEIL sie so jung angefangen haben (meistens). Unten ein Bild von mir in 1986, im selbstgestrickten Pulli, die ich noch habe und trage. Harrumph 😉

Yesterday afternoon I enjoyed the sunshine while picking, cleaning, and destemming grapes. Ended up with 4.9kg! After juicing, I had 3ltr of juice & about 1/2 cup of...pulp? Mash? Made a small spice cake with it, will bottle the juice this evening. 😋

Norman Rockwell Painting, "Tired Salesgirl on Christmas Eve" from 1947. An obviously exhausted woman is slumped against a wall, rubbing her bare, sore feet together. There's a book on her lap, apparently stuffed full of orders and receipts, and she's surrounded by unsold toys, including a large yellow toy car big enough for a child to sit in. The toys aren't displayed neatly on shelves, rather heaped and scattered. A stuffed animal above her left shoulder seems like it's looking at her with a concerned expression. A sign above her head is partly detached and hangs crooked. It reads 'this store closes at 5:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve'. The woman's watch, pinned to her dress, reads 5:05.

Summer plaid:
A grainfield which has been recently harvested, beneath a sunny summer sky. There are lines of light and dark brown showing the different directions the harvesters took at each pass, along with some light green lines -- newly planted next crop, I think. It all forms a sort of plaid pattern.

What those redcurrants became -- a bottle of unsweetened juice to be used for something or other in the future, with the remaining juice sweetened and made into jelly for my weekend Brötchen. Juice canning instructions as well as the bottle from the excellent www.glaeserundflaschen.de site.

A very large garden gnome carrying a bucket of blue fish and sporting a disturbing smile stands behind a chain link fence. (I'm glad there's a fence.) There's a green rain barrel behind and to the left of the gnome, and lots of vegetation growing vigorously in early summer.

A certain shade of yellow features prominently and may or may not be contributing to her distress.

In the middle of the photo, a heart made entirely of seashells in concentric (concardiac??) colors: blue in the middle, then a rim of brown, then blue again, then white, then blue on the outside. The damp sand has been carefully tamped down to showcase this lovely heart. Taken on the beach at Domburg, NL in July 2006 -- best vacation evar!
