Being a college journalist taught me just how tight deadlines are in a professional newsroom. As both a Mizzou student and avid reader of the Post, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw they had released their takeaways less than 30 minutes after the game ended. Great example of timely journalism.

Hello! My name is Chase Pray and I’m a sophomore at the University of Mizzou. Currently, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the university’s student publication The Maneater. While my emphasis area is reporting and writing, I love to work with all kinds of journalistic media!

Over the past few months I have worked tirelessly to rehaul The Maneaters brand via projects such as creating a merch store, logo/color palette changes and a new website built from scratch (themaneater.com). In my opinion, these projects have given our publication a much needed breathe of fresh air.

Today I had the opportunity to bring 50 Maneater staffers to the live broadcast of SEC Nation. This was an amazing opportunity and experience as we were able to watch famous sports journalists such as Paul Finebaum, Tim Tebow and Roman Harper live report from feet away.

Earlier this week I learned that I was going to an on air personality for KCOU 88.1 FM’s daily news talk show “The Pulse” on Tuesdays. This will be my second year working with KCOU, and I’m super excited to continue expanding my skillset as a journalist as I try out different kinds of media.

In celebration of The Maneater turning 70, I’ve been planning a reunion event for early October. I’ve never planned an event of this magnitude before so it’s been a very valuable learning experience. I’m excited to celebrate the history of the publication with those who paved the way before me.

In March of this year I was elected Editor-in-Chief of Mizzous student led publication The Maneater by my peers. Alongside the other members of the Mizzou Student Media Executive board, I’ve been helping oversee the day-to-day well being of the student lead journalism outlets on campus.
