This is such a deranged group of people that this quiz has generated for me, and also I can see it. I got:

Carlisle Cullen from Twilight
Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon
Glenn from Walking Dead
Vision from Marvel

Been playing Crypt Custodian after seeing it pop up on @indiegameawards.gg’s list of game of the year nominees. I’m enjoying it so far! Feels closer to how Death’s Door handled being a Zelda-like compared to something like Tunic. Really interested in where the story ends up going too.

Alright I’ll bite

Been playing Diceomancer and really enjoying it. It combines the rock solid foundation of Slay the Spire and the absolute chaos of Balatro. Also loving the bizarre art style that’s somewhere between the Zelda CDI game and the LOTR animated movie.

I saw some people predicting that because John Cena was retweeting Mass Effect stuff on N7 day he would be cast as Commander Shepard. To them I say, you’re thinking too small.

Been thinking a lot about 1000xRESIST since last week. Clutching onto this line for dear life.

Recently finished up the Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. The discussion of that game as a whole is a real can of worms but I really wanna heap on some praise of Phantom Liberty. Truly was not expecting the combo of Mission Impossible, Casino Royale and Alien Isolation that it brought.

You also attached a skateboard to the controller to play it, which feels extremely Dreamcast

This game feels like a launch window Dreamcast exclusive despite being a PS2 game

Been playing through Galerians recently, a game I had no idea existed until a few days ago. Its mechanics are extremely okay but I’m loving its story. The game came out in 1999 so it’s got a TON of 90s era sci fi anime influence. We’re talkin’ self aware AI that wants to create a god kinda stuff.

I just got one of these recently too. Was shocked at how comfortable it is. I bought a grip for it expecting it to need it but it really doesn’t.

The vision of the future this game paints is bleak but it's got a hopeful tone in the people it presents. Most folks you meet are dealing with poverty in one way or another, but most also have a warmness to them. It feels like Avalanche from FF7, TMNT from the 90s, and Adventure Time rolled into one

I also see a lot of Paper Mario's badges or FF7's Materia in how you can customize the way you want to battle. There's a huge variety of play styles in these games because of these systems, and it's an amazing way to allow for player creativity in an otherwise linear and scripted experience.

I'm reminded of a lot stuff when playing through it. Eastward is the one that comes up most often in that this game is just a rock solid version of a game type that has existed for awhile. Both are bringing a lot to the table but you can feel that there's a reverence for the 'traditions' of RPGs.

Been playing through Jack Move. The classic RPG stuff it's got going on in the battle system is a real joy. It's not swerving the formula in the way that you see something like Chained Echoes or Octopath are doing but I think there's plenty of room for this sort of classic style of RPG in 2023.

Ship customization is something you can do in a lot of games but the level of detail and freedom the game provides reminds me a lot more of something like the house builder in The Sims where the limit is usually you’re own creativity.

Been checking out Cosmoteer: Starship Architect and Commander after seeing a ton of praise for it on steam. On first blush I thought this was mainly a twist on FTL, and it some ways it is but it’s also so much more. Thoughts on it below:

Thus far Clive in FF16 is reminding me a lot of Riku from KH. Obviously there’s a bit of visual similarities but the story of having to face and accept the darkness in themselves in pretty familiar. It’s something that I think really works and I’m so happy to see focused on so heavily.

It sounds like it was! The game makes owning and serving a sushi restaurant look like the coolest shit. The chef Bancho is such an amazing character here.
