Take a look at the university's and/or library mission before applying. Every institution has different priorities for example some may focus on teaching while others on research and each has their pros and cons. 2/2

Follow the directions of the application and make sure you submit all of the components and double check before you submit to make sure the letter is for the correct place submitting. The cover letter is the place where you can set yourself apart and yes we do read them. 1/2

What makes it difficult is if no one raises salaries, they all stay low as many use each other as comparison for competition.

During one of the lunches at MLA a vendor were talking about a AI license libraries could buy for faculty to use their content in private (not public) LLMs. They were telling us institutions would have to track projects. Attendees were like how are we supposed to do that?

Unfortunately vendors have been hinting at conferences that they are looking outside of higher Ed for revenue streams as companies get larger and more complex so I am skeptical on how much they hurt.

When I was chair of the MLA Vision 2048 taskforce part of the discussion with the group and current library students was the lack of health sciences education. When we cannot provide access to eBooks we are transparent of why we can't purchase it due to the vendor barriers which are out of our control.
