Saw the Duomo, Botticelli, Galileo and much more. It was inspiring.

Here’s a ‘Did you know?’; The wax models are based of real organs that were used to create molds. It’s probably the most accurate 3D depiction of anatomy out there.

Afterwards I, obviously, took the train to Florence to see the Anatomical Venus in person. The anatomical waxes were so beautiful.

Look 👀 I gave a talk at the IVIPRO festival in Trieste, Italy about Biophobia called ‘The Powers of Horror: Between Kusōzu, Ophelia, and the Anatomical Venus’. Thank you so much for inviting me to speak.

The negative reviews were to be expected, but they only show why a game like Biophobia should exist. As for the positive reviews, they just make me very happy.

The main inspiration for Biophobia was Ophelia from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Swammerdam later turned his attention to insects, uncovering that the "king bee" was actually a queen. This was considered dangerous knowledge. He compiled his findings in the magisterial yet controversial Bible of Nature, published 57 years after his death.

A century earlier, Dutch doctors such as van Horne, Swammerdam, Steno, and de Graaf discovered through dissection that the so-called female testes were in fact ovaries, similar to those in ‘egg-laying animals’. A revelation that spread across Europe within five years.

Another inspiration for Biophobia was the wax sculpture Anatomical Venus (1782) by Clemente Susini. She embodies a moment in history when dissection shifted from taboo to enlightenment; where science, religion and beauty merged.

Visited the Samurai Museum in Berlin. One of my inspirations for Biophobia was Keeping Up The Pureness by Fuyuko Matsui. I am deeply moved by this paining and it’s cultural context. I hope, through my work, I was able to express my sincere admiration and respect.
