North Londoner now living in the countryside. Not a nimby.
Maybe the control of irregular migration is preferable to everyone being stripped of their rights?

I’m really surprised at this from you. Comparing what Mahmood set out today in the HoC with what the Nazis did to Jews in the holocaust is just terrible. How can you associate yourself with it?

Well then critique her proposals rather than pour scorn on her for daring to mention the vile racism she and other black and brown people face.

Bloody hell. Is this the latest Bluesky variant of ‘she deserves all she gets’?

Yes my post was aimed at people like you

We’re not leaving the human rights convention and I think people need to calm down. If the government don’t get a grip on channel crossings and the asylum system then, we’ll get a Farage government.

Labour intends to stay within the human rights convention.

Worth noting that’s what’s been briefed to The Sun while there seems to be no sign of it in The Times, which is unusual. Instead The Times report on the prospect of sanctions against Angola, the DRC and (Namibia?) if they refuse to take back their nationals who are convicted criminals & overstayers🤷‍♀️

Also, frankly, you need to stop rewarding this shrillness. I see plenty of people with whom I interact make similarly ludicrous grandiose statements, knowing they will get them the validation of "likes". That is the way to take a calm, friendly online space and make it a left mirror-image of X.

I’ve listed my faves earlier and if it happens would depend upon who is best placed at that time. But there’s a budget to deliver, which needs a bit of calm and we must hope Reeves gets she headroom needs and mortgage rates aren’t affected. If they are, then I fear it could be curtains for Labour.

Just to add I rate Jones too, who’s been very quiet since Starmer elevated him.
It’s a funny sort of message to elect someone clearly incapable against someone who is talented and getting stuff done. I’m afraid I’m not ready to trust the wisdom of members at this point.

Members just elected Lucy Powell. Do you believe they’ll elect anyone vaguely sensible for leader? I rate Kyle, Phillipson and Jarvis, but sadly don’t believe they’ll have a snowball’s chance.

2/ and it’d increase public expenditure. Who’s gone out there and won the argument for rises and is it even currently winnable? I was happily ready to cough up but the attacks on breaching a key manifesto commitment were building into a crescendo. She might still do it, and be shot down in flames.

Hindsight and all that. But I think the social/media attacks were primed and ready to go, so I’m not sure it would’ve gone down as well as we’ve all convinced ourselves. Raising income tax would be deflationary in that it’d reduce spending power in those feeling the pinch

Which measures do you think would best bring down inflation and improve public services?

Interestingly voices off- Rentoul and Crerar- have already started sharpening their arrows against Streeting.
