yeah! that was the hand wavy part, but basically. a secure and stable way to access your friends machine and then whatever tools you want on top of that

i think there's a sliding scale of how much it admin you want to do and complexity, but i love @tailscale.com so much, because it's free and makes it really easy to share devices securely with friends. basically a big private network for your friends that gives a stable IP for you to reference them

i *think* tooling will help here make the system graph more visible and provide things like table metrics to help, but i agree. these heuristics are hard to get right and easy to regress, the number of people who need perf but can’t tune it is likely pretty small

in a few years i think we’ll be writing more world exclusive systems for this and many other reasons
