Last time I checked the airpark also has the 15mph limit. But people seem to be fine with faster.

All things can be true. We can up zone appropriately, we can recognize the value and acreage of land used in the name of golf, and we can acknowledge that other interests would be more adversely affected from the loss of the racetrack than the loss of a golf course.

I constantly hear city officials shirk action because of the potential liability it’d create. And yet….

It’s not baseball season.

True! Cedar Hill does have a nice setup. But the added planning and costs required to pull/replace speed bumps, and police to close the loop for a 10-week race series becomes prohibitive.
It’s not really feasible.

I know this isn’t what you’re asking, but a lot of David Bowie.

That’s fair. They usually leave you on either a high or a slow. But I always find the experience leisurely

oh, I already lambasted our public golf course land usage earlier today.

Oh! I know this one!

The Library!!

Yeah, but iirc the airpark is still open to anyone during the cross country meets and pays permitting.

But it has been on my list of things I’ll get around to some day lol

I'm all for it! But I'm not sure the Friends of Shelby folks would be keen to it.

Golfers have 7 public places in Nashville, and I've never heard of a golfer being killed by a car while participating in their hobby.
But if @freddieoconnell.bsky.social wanted to let cyclists turn the Hardins Bend landfill into a CX course, MTB skills track, and crit loop -- have the racetrack!
December 18, 2025 at 2:11 PM
No doubt. I'm a big supporter of all engineered solutions. But that'd also decrease the 'affordability' part after its complete. But the racetrack is the only place in Nashville that cyclists can ride as fast at they want without 1) breaking greenway laws 2) risk being killed by drivers.

I largely agree with the point @jereworld.bsky.social was making, however. Affordable housing on a BRT route should be considered community asset and public good, and prioritized. But someone will always be taking strays from losing an existing asset.
December 18, 2025 at 1:48 PM
But why doesn’t anyone suggest repealing and replacing one of our public golf courses for housing?
Ted Rhodes & McCabe are ~150 acres each
Percy Warner is another 40
VinnyLinks (Shelby) is ~130 acres

Me and many others also enjoy racing bikes at the race track. I’ve also seen it flood within a few minutes and create a very dangerous situation. I wouldn’t wish for anyone to live there.

I don’t think the city should be pumping a bunch of money into the racetrack (cough Nissan Stdm)… 1/2
