Admittedly, Devin Brown is this type of player (and a great piece of roster building), but it’s unfair to expect so much of a freshman. We need 2024/5 Max Shulga. Last week, I would have thought landing a guy like that was impossible. Now with some cash and a sprinkle of Steph magic, who knows?!

We certainly need two bigs, one upperclassman, one recruit imo. I’m not 100% against getting another PG, just needs to be a Sr or grad to not block Bobs or Nick for the future. We kinda need just a better version of Laput, who has size to guard up a spot or two but can be a primary ball handler.

Unless we lose Mike, Bobs, or Nick, wouldn’t we just be overloaded with point guards? Part of my frustration with MM is roster construction, theres just too much overlap between those players IMO. Mike is maybe the only one who can play SG, not enough size to play 2 of the other guys simultaneously

It seemed like as some players improved, others struggled for seemingly unrelated reasons. As Manie, Bobs, and Hunter came on, Bobby, Connor, and Reed took a step back. Maybe this is due to minutes distribution or game plan changes, but it was frustrating to Manie pop and then Bobby miss open 3s.

No reason that Tomisin and Candice won’t both improve their outside shooting! That team has 5 shooters, length 1-4, athleticism 1-5, and grabs all the rebounds.
March 10, 2025 at 5:32 PM
That doesn’t leave a lot of minutes for Jasmine or Emilie, who I fear might look for more playing time elsewhere.
March 10, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Certainly a good option but I go Kyra/Katie/Charli/Candice/Tomisin or Portal C. The size and switchability on D would be insane. Dauer, Jackson, and the young bigs off the bench. Play the bench a lot, constant defensive intensity and wear teams down.

Our back court depth is nuts. We have 6 players who play the 1 and 2. 2 of those are nearly all-A10 (Kyra and Katie), 2 are inexperienced but have great potential (Sylvie and Sienna), 2 are capable with some upside (Emilie and Jasmine). None of them will graduate until 2027!!
March 10, 2025 at 5:12 PM
But also I think the TOs might drop with Kyra at PG. Katie’s handle needs to improve along with avoiding traveling in the post but I trust that will improve in the offseason. Mostly, we need to stay healthy, add some structure to the offense and add front court depth. That’s it!

During the A-10 semis they mentioned the team having no summer workouts or group practices until October. A full healthy offseason should do wonders. Also, as great as Issy is, she did have a lot of unforced TOs to end the season. Part of that is the offense (which the staff should tweak).

I deleted it really quick because (as Catsby mentioned) naming specific players before they’re in the portal is not great.
March 10, 2025 at 4:33 PM
My now deleted post *maybe* directly speculated about a player from the land of which you speak
March 10, 2025 at 4:26 PM
Deleted my last post because I don’t want to name specific players. But as you said there’s some capital T talent that are 3rd and 4th string bigs at P5s who could start at center for us, be first team all A-10, and power us to an at large or single digit seed in the ncaa tournament.

If you really want to go down the rabbit hole and see what Aussies might want to come play with us…

GMU making the tournament this year is going to make VBL a really strong P4 candidate, especially if she brings Harris and Walton with her for two years…
I think Roussell stays until Doogan and Ullstrom graduate.
March 10, 2025 at 3:52 PM
UR keeps Doogan, Ullstrom, and Sweeney next season. GM keep Walton and Harris for two
more seasons! So not so fast… If we’re able to add all conference talent to an already deep and talented roster we should be the favorite though.
March 10, 2025 at 3:45 PM
We need to extend Gayle and Janssen immediately. One of the advantages of having these resources is keeping your staff from being P4 poached. Tommy Lloyd was an assistant at Gonzaga for 20 YEARS before going to UA. This staff is worth keeping long term, PAY THEM
March 10, 2025 at 3:35 PM
Get (i.e. pay) Tomisin to stay for a post grad certificate, bring in ($$$) a talented young P4 center from the portal (an Aussie if it’s legal?) and we’re cooking for next season and beyond for WBB. MBB is going to take a lot more roster construction…
