So after some kind soul felt it would be wise to bash my car with theirs and drive off without leaving a note the other week.
I'm now having the front bumper repaired.

I'll post the after later today when the chap has finished.

Finally, about 10 minutes later once 5M12 shunted to P2, the last bi-di service arrived. 800110 on 1W11 1000 London Kings Cross to Aberdeen running a mere +59 late. This was the last service to 'go round' 9E09 before it got moving again and 801207 Darlington could follow through right road.
January 14, 2025 at 8:40 PM
Whilst 5M12 did its shunt, 1S10 0930 London Kings Cross to Newcastle vice Edinburgh (801228) also appeared wrong road at +70 late, and passed on the right hand side. This must've been confusing for the LNER driver having just passed the stricken TPE a few miles earlier, to then find another here.

Whilst waiting for the other bi-di services, TPE 5M12 (née 9M12 Newcastle-Liverpool), terminated at Darlington, and shunted to Platform 2.

Here is 802216 running Up on the Down Main during its shunt move from P1 to P2.

In the meantime however, I was fortunate enough to be able to witness, and photograph use of the rarely used Bi-Directional signalling with 3 services running 'wrong road' to get around the stricken Nova.

Here is 220012 on 1S37 0524 Plymouth to Newcastle vice Edinburgh, running +65 late.
January 14, 2025 at 8:40 PM
It was a rocky road to get this shot of 'Darlington' however as 9E09 Liverpool to Newcastle - 802214 had an issue and decided to sit down at East Cowton, blocking the Northbound line for approx 2 hours. Causing massive delays in the area.
(Seen here on Diesel when it eventually got moving)

801207 '𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗼𝗻' - 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟬.

The latest LNER livery, completed to recognise the 200th Anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. The orange really works with the red and its nice to see my home town recognised.

Not my picture but the latest LNER livery announced today

Out and about specifically to get a photo of a specific unit. This is what railway photography looks like when it goes pete tong.

This mainline now blocked about 2 miles south of where I am for the past 60 mins. Nothing is moving.

Quietly hoping nothing gets cancelled and ruins my shots.
January 14, 2025 at 12:26 PM
Not a bad start to 2025 so far.

47 services worked, on average only 1 minute delay per service.

In reality those 47 minutes were split over 7 services with the other 40 being on time.

I can imagine it's quite quiet up there this time of year.
Growing up we used to join my now late grandparents at the Attadale holiday cottages every May and October half terms for a week and did this right until I was 20ish. Been back a few times since with my wife to the area. Good memories.

I still went out to see how the car handled, better to find out today than on the way to work one morning.
It handled quite well. Think my investment in all season tyres paid off.

With the severe snow the Midlands and North of England has been suffering today i thought I would share this throwback to 10th Jan 2021.
I had planned to go and do some photography today but given its the first winter where I've had a rear wheel drive car I thought it best to stay local.
January 5, 2025 at 9:10 PM
It arrived up norf.

Both your months scored special HSTs.
March 2020, The Flying Banana crosses Yarm Viaduct
January 2023, Midland Pull man opens the throttle to accelerate off the 30mph Oak Tree Curve near Dinsdale.

Don't have any from that month so gone for 15/6/21 which is the closest I have.

Unidentified class 803 on test near Newton Aycliffe prior to Lumo starting their successful service.

Sometimes this job can be very repetitive, then other weeks much more varied.
Week leading up to Christmas I barely got off my core route, with 35 out of 39 trips on there.
This week,
This week, 21 trips, only 8 on core route. Much more enjoyable and a change of scenery.
January 2, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Still 3tp2h in Dec 25, just expresses are retimed as they come off a Carlisle expresses (will be Carlisle - Middlesbrough service)
January 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Now arriving to find my service.
January 2, 2025 at 7:41 AM
En-route to my train for the day.
I don't get to see the red ones often. First time in 6½ weeks that I've driven this route and it's express!
January 2, 2025 at 7:30 AM
1,110 Journeys
Nearly 5 continous weeks behind the controls.
1½ days of total delays
24½ thousand miles driven.

Based on a station call every 8 minutes that's also 6,262 station calls made. A busy year!
January 1, 2025 at 1:01 PM
Was up close and personal the other week in the Middlesbrough HST sidings whilst my set was on the adjacent road.

Here is 5Z92 running 5 minutes ahead of 5G91.
December 17, 2024 at 6:37 PM
Today's 5Z90 and 5Z91, with 91127 being the first of its class to run North of York in over 3 years.

Here we see the wonderful LNER Intercity225 livery against the striking Darlington Station.

It's a shame so many new stanchions have appeared with the station remodel but still a striking few shots
December 17, 2024 at 4:00 PM
Now this is a throwback, excuse the photo quality as its back from when I first started on a mobile phone.

43308 HST departs Darlington platform 1 on a service to Kings Cross whilst 801217 sits on the goods loop on a positioning move.
06th December 2019.
