*aren't mutually exclusive.

Amusing but these stories are mutually exclusive. Reporting one doesn't mean the other is neglected. We can argue about the urgency of the reporting on Trump but the media is reporting on him. The Biden story is a single story, Trump is a dozen a day. "Flood the zone" is working.

Some things never go out of style.

I'm Gen X. Right now it seems to be home automation and drones for engineers. What was it for you guys?

I have a BA in Engineering Technology. Nearly went Mechanical until I saw that ET was a hands on degree and ME was all theory. We ran an engineering team building an ultra fuel efficient engine. The ME students would come to us to learn how things actually got fabricated and built.

Trump is so used to using mean tweets to get his way in the US that he thinks it would work outside the US. Remember, he literally said that he controls the world.

This is the FO part of Trump's FOFA shit with Putin.

I'm not sure where the threat is. CA is a donor state, sending tens of billions of dollars more to the Washington than it gets back. If CA stopped sending taxe dollars Washington, it would be lights out for some red states.

THey want colleges to be trade schools, not places where people might actually learn about the world, much less places where research and innovation that drive the American economy happen.

Truly. More like "talk at them and over them while standing in the same physical space"

He's doing presidenting. He just used the president's pardon power to pardon the Chrisleys, fellow reality TV vets. #Priorities

"This administration's position is that there should be fewer degrees in majors that don't exist."

MAGA sees colleges as trade schools, not institutions that drive our economy through research and innovation. They don't want people to learn anything meaningful about the world.

It makes sense when you just start with the assumption that, like, 85% of what comes out of her mouth is just made up gibberish designed to please an audience of one.
May 28, 2025 at 1:29 PM
AH, that was an angle that I hadn't considered. I thought it was just wanting to control the output of research done by or funded by the government. It's logical that going around the people who know things calling out MAHA ignorance, it's just a facet of the same thing.

Interestingly, that move began with the Apollo program to a great degree. Digitalization was great when it was primarily giving us productivity tools, much less so when the internet got captured by corporations and sold back to us for clicks on ads.

You're not wrong. Engineers in those days were great at their jobs because they had to be. It also helped that they had national unity, competition with the USSR, and a deep sense of responsibility for the safety of our astronauts to focus and motivate them.

I think there's an argument to be made that the rocket failing without exploding *is* a step forward but, overall, the forward steps have been incremental. This and Elon's history of over promising when one of his products will be ready doesn't bode well for on time on budget delivery.

Science requires peer review... which requires publishing in places where your peers would see your work...

The only purpose I can see for this new policy is to control the data and results to be published. This is a FRIGHTENING idea.
