An excerpt from the Noel Coward Diaries, 29 April 1956: 'Last night we went to a cocktail party nearby and there was Osbert Sitwell. He has got Parkinson's disease very badly and shakes continually. I felt suddenly dreadfully sorry for him and also admiring because he is not allowing it to get him down. We had a long talk and he couldn't have been nicer. It seems at long last that the age-old feud will be resolved, with a little effort from me. This effort I shall certainly make. The years go by and old venoms lose their potency and there is no longer any time for such foolishness.' An excerpt from the Noel Coward Diaries, 21 November 1962: 'On Sunday I went to tea with Edith Sitwell in her flat in Hampstead. I must say I found her completely charming, very amusing and rather touching. How strange that a forty-year feud should finish so gracefully and so suddenly. I am awfully glad. She gave me her new slim volume of poems. I am fairly unrepentant about her poetry. I really think that three-quarters of it is gibberish. However, I must crush down these thoughts otherwise the dove of peace will shit on me.'

Never mind the collops
A screenshot of the Wikipedia entry for Collopy Monday (on the Shrove Monday page): The British name Collopy Monday is after the traditional dish of the day, consisting of slices of leftover meat (collops of bacon) along with eggs. It is eaten for breakfast and is part of the traditional Lenten preparations. In addition to providing a little meat, the collops were also the source of the fat for the following day's pancakes. It is rarely celebrated these days.

In 1970, Australian pianist Peter Evans decided to abandon a solo performance of the piece after five-hundred and ninety-five repetitions because he felt that "evil thoughts" were overtaking him and observed "strange creatures emerging from the sheet music".
