9. US professional scientific societies have for too long been reluctant to stand up for science writ large, preferring a conservative tack and mildly advocating for their specific disciplines. This needs to change.

8. Despite many serious misgivings, I also urge a general strike by all federal scientists across the agencies (NSF, NIH, CDC, DOD, NOAA, DOE, etc.). The administration seems to think scientific expertise and practice is expendable. A general strike might help them see otherwise.
