Every evening the crows of Seattle gather at various staging areas before flying en masse to the North Creek Wetland on the UW Bothell campus where 10,000 - 15,000 roost for the night. This evening they staged around my house, hundreds of them. Every tree, rooftop and telegraph wire was packed.

Gold price have surged to record highs since Trump took office. Since gold is a hedge against economic uncertainty, this suggests that institutions see significant downside risks in the global economy going forward. Concern over the stability of the US dollar probably a major factor here.

The world has now passed “peak child”. A declining global population later this century is inevitable. Peak humanity may occur as soon as 2050. This has major implications for economic growth and the sustainability of the welfare state.

The United State has run a persistent deficit on the current account of the balance of payments since the mid 1970s, and as you can see it’s really devastated the economy…..not.

Last night’s blizzard up in Roslyn, WA. Lost power for 4 hours thanks to the infamous bomb cyclone, so went to the Suncadia lodge where the bar was open and they served free drinks!
