🕊️ The memorial plaque in the historic Karolinum building is dedicated to the victims of war – not only from the university community. The bronze plaque depicts the goddess Nike with a broken palm branch, symbolizing the paradox of victory associated with sacrifice.

🌺 The poppy has been a symbol of war veterans since the end of World War I. By wearing one, we remember the heroism of soldiers and pay tribute to them together. Do you have yours yet?

The proposal for the appointment of the rector will be submitted to the President of the Republic via the Minister of Education. The new rector of Charles University will take office on February 1, 2026. The term of office is four years.

All 70 members of the Senate took part in the election. In the second round of voting, Jiří Zima received 40 valid votes and Milena Králíčková received 27.

Five candidates were nominated to the Academic Senate of Charles University for the position of rector: Prof. Jiří Zima, CSc., Prof. František Zahálka, Ph.D., Prof. Ladislav Krištoufek, Ph.D., Prof. Martin Mihaljevič, CSc., and Prof. Milena Králíčková, Ph.D.
