Now through the beginning of December, we are running a coat drive. You can donate any new or gently used coats, jackets, sweaters, sleeping bags, socks, and blankets! Any warm clothing will be accepted and everything collected will go directly to unhoused and low income residents.

On election night, socialist candidates around the country showed up and won big. From Kelsea Bond in Atlanta to Zohran Mamdani in New York City, we challenged developers, landlords, outdated paradigms... and defeated them! While we celebrate these victories, we also recognize that our fight must continue. Until all workers and tenants can live with dignity; until all children go to bed fed and housed; until we can exercise our First Amendment rights in Charleston; until Palestine is free... we struggle onwards. Charleston DSA is fighting against Charleston County’s unfair tax breaks that support Palestinian genocide by partnering with the Elbit Out of SC campaign. We are fighting for our right to free speech and assembly against the City of Charleston’s unconstitutional “1st Amendment Demonstration” ordinance with our First Amendment Restoration campaign. With only 600 votes required to win certain Charleston City Council seats and momentum building, the message is clear: We can win by putting pressure on elected officials, increasing our visibility and solidarity within the community, and demonstrating leadership through our campaigns. The DSA is building socialism and progressive policies in the South, so join DSA today to help us fight for a better world!

Don’t let them chop down your rights. Are you concerned about our free speech rights disappearing? Do you want to take action to defend them right here in Charleston? Charleston DSA is fighting to repeal the city’s so-called “1st Amendment Ordinance.” This law forces any planned protest of 25 or more people to get prior approval from the Charleston Police Department. In practice, the police have abused this power. They demand last-minute location changes, intimidate organizers, and enforce the ordinance unequally. These tactics have silenced voices and arbitrarily limited our fundamental right to protest. Now is the time to stand together and push back. Defending free speech in Charleston starts with you. It can be as simple as signing our petition below.

What is S.323?

South Carolina Senate Bill 323 seeks to create a near-total abortion ban with virtually no exceptions.

As democratic socialists, we believe reproductive freedom is a human right. That means free, safe, and legal abortion as part of universal healthcare.
Abortion isn’t just a right. it’s medically necessary to protect the health of the host (the word “host“ is striked out and replaced with mother). whoops sorry did we say host? we definitely meant mother because S.323 isn't completely, disgustingly dehumanizing at all... vote no on s.323

Pledge of Allegiance: Loyalty, not Liberty In 1892, Francis Bellamy —a Christian socialist—wrote the version of the pledge we know today: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands…” He hoped it would unite the nation across class lines, but his vision was deeply flawed. Bellamy was anti-immigrant and believed loyalty to the flag could "correct" their values Then in 1954, during the Cold War, President Eisenhower added “under God” to the pledge. The goal? To tie religion, patriotism, and capitalism into one national identity. The pledge became less about unity and more about ideological conformity. It trained us to salute the system, not question it. That’s not liberty. That’s obedience.

ICE = Pure Hypocrisy "They don't pay taxes" - wrong ICE uses tax info directly from the IRS to locate tax-paying immigrants. "They're here illegally" - wrong ICE arrests people at courthouses during their immigration hearings. "They drain resources" - wrong ICE kidnaps people at their places of work because they have stable jobs. "They're all criminals" - wrong ICE deports thousands of children and families. "They break the law" - wrong ICE is run by a convicted felon who ignores the US constitution.

EVERYDAY PEOPLE Welcome to a New Movement Everyday People is a new grassroots effort to drive white supremacists out of power. How? A nationwide fast from spending. White supremacist violence is perpetuated to funnel money into the pockets of the rich. So, one day a week, we refuse to participate. We're calling it Fasting Fridays, and it's as simple as it sounds. Along the way to reaching our goal of no more white supremacists in power anywhere across the land, we think we'll hit some benchmarks.
