National Guard soldiers called into service for President Trump's law enforcement surge in D.C. have been assigned to spread mulch at federal monuments.

Normally the Park Service does that, but the administration laid off the workers.

"Why are they calling me an Evil Overlord?" the Evil Overlord said.

"There is a saying that 'evil starts with treating people as things'," a minion said.

"So? I treat all people with dignity and respect!"

"You often change your definition of who's 'people', though."

"Doesn't everybody?"

Gov. Tim Walz State Address: "We have university students shoved into unmarked vans and fathers being tossed into Salvadorian gulags without a hint of due process. If you say you love freedom, but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn't freedom, it's privilege."

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Didn't realize this was such a hot take: Dictionaries are descriptive, not prescriptive.

If someone is using a word in a way that you don't understand, that's a signal to be curious, not read them a definition.

"What?"

"Save the world, make it kinder, cleaner, safer."

"Me?"

"Yes."

"Alone?"

"We chose everyone."

This idea that if people aren't forced to work they won't work is baffling to me. We like building and creating. We like building our nests.

The dignity of work is broken. Working to make other people rich is broken. Needing to disassociate to get through your work day is broken.
