3/ COVID vaccine effectiveness varies by population and variant.

Adults: 46-50% against hospitalization. Immunocompromised: 37%.

When variants shifted from XBB to JN.1, effectiveness fell from 62% to 32%.

But KP.2 vaccine restored it to 68%.

The issue is not that Gates is marginal or loathsome it's that he's completely wrong about several key issues about solving the climate problem, and he uses his large megaphone to spread untruths. His denigration of deployment in favor of "miracles" is the most pernicious example.

Hobnobbing with Lomborg is another example. Nobody should take that guy seriously, he's a fossil-fuel shill. And saying that we're too focused on emissions reductions goals is just crazy talk. Gates should stick to health issues where he's been a net positive and stop spreading nonsense on climate

The Gates blog basically says we should help poor people and reduce human suffering. This is clearly NOT incompatible with addressing climate change... a problem that creates untold human suffering. I truly don't know why he wrote this article in the first place.

Lastly if the world cares about poverty then there are climate solutions there as well. Solar plus batteries entrepreneurs are serving the 700 million people in extreme electricity poverty. We have solutions to the cold supply chain that are cheaper and better on climate.
