Fantastic and necessary new book. @emilymbender.bsky.social and @alexhanna.bsky.social offer a powerful, engaging, and even funny look at “A.I. hype” and its consequences. Super-readable, deeply-researched, cuts through all the bullshit. Essential to navigate the world Big Tech is trying to create.

Adding my voice to the chorus of praise for this remarkable documentary. As a proud member of the Pee-Wee Generation, I was predisposed to like it, but it still blew me away. A beautiful, difficult, complex story that both breaks & fills your heart along the way. Today's secret word is "must-watch."

With the appearance of white smoke at the Vatican, the world is made aware that the conclave has chosen a new pope. The new pontiff is a surprising choice.

Happy 10th birthday to Country Soul. Still proud of it. Grateful that it's changed my life in the ways it has. Very glad that it's resonated with folks over the years. A lot's happened since that's changed this story and how I think about it. At least one new chapter to be written. Maybe someday.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. I hope Santa brings you everything you asked for this year. And I hope he wraps it better than I would have.

Watching the Magnetic Fields' new Tiny Desk concert. One of the books on the desk looks awfully familiar.

I'm tired of "can Beyoncé really be considered country?" convos for many reasons, but this morning I couldn't help but notice her appearance on the cover of the "Say My Name" single released 25 years ago.

Hey everybody, be sure to check your Halloween candy this year. I found something really weird in this chocolate bar.

My deepest thanks to the legendary Sheila E for joining us at Rhodes College this evening. She played with the Rhodes jazz band, and then I got to talk to her a bit about her music, her career, and her belief in music's transformative power. Fantastic, from top to bottom. A very good night at work.

Had my regular colonoscopy today. Given my family history, I started them early & I won’t miss them. It ain’t a party, but it’ll help ensure that you stay the life of the party as long as possible. Get one when it’s recommended. And tell them your old pal the Wisco Kid sent you.

How lovely to finally get a chance to hear the great Molly Tuttle live - getting a chance to sing along with “Crooked Tree,” in particular, was pretty special. And what a band.

Forty-two. Not sure how or when that happened, but I’ll take it.

Today's the release day for my friend John Bass's beautiful debut album Nowhere In Between. I'm honored to be one of the contributing musicians, alongside an esteemed Memphis crew. Check it out, and come see us tonight at the Green Room at Crosstown. tinyurl.com/yhdmfu79

More required reading (listening): the 1998 CD set From Where I Stand, compiling the rich history of Black country music up until then. Featuring crucial liner notes from Claudia Perry, John Rumble, and Ron Wynn. It's out of print, but very much worth tracking down. Essential foundations.
