It’s Spring here. Out my kitchen window, I see the bright white petals of the dogwood tree. It grows behind the metal shed in our backyard. I don’t know what today will bring, the weather forecast, the news. I’m not concerned. I’m enjoying the view out my kitchen window.

Just finished The Frozen River.

A 'biographical fiction' novel. Based on the diary of midwife Martha Ballard from Nov 1789 to April 1790.

Riveting. Gritty. Surprising. Smoothly written. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Looking forward to reading more from Ariel Lawhon.

Rarely does a book have me saying "Oh, I wish I could read that again for the first time!"

That's what I said after reading Children of Time by @aptshadow.bsky.social.

Followed by "What a grand way to introduce understanding and cooperation between the species!"

Now ready for Children of Ruin.

When the going gets tough, I've learned it's better to do the work to get through it vs starting over. It's not nearly as much work as starting over. Starting over means losing momentum and even when it's tough...there is momentum. Better to work thru it and be ahead than to stop and start over.

Yes! Though I do wonder why we continue to think of it as Positive and Negative - personally I kinda like Helpful and Unhelpful that moment. Like it? Helpful? Great...let's ponder or support it. Don't like? Unhelpful? Great...move on to the next thought. Wonder if that's doable?

Practicing the "breath is an anchor" as he defrosts the chest freezer. Have decided it's not a good idea to tell him that his mutterings don't help it defrost faster.

Mindful Living: In the chaos of deadlines and demands, I find peace in the anchor of my breath. The simple act of mindful breathing—inhale deeply, feel life's energy; exhale, release stress—serves as a powerful reset. It grounds me in the present and provides me clarity and purpose.

Feeling almost normal again. Mom passed on January 26. I haven't been wracked with grief. I've moved from sad to peaceful ... and now I am beginning to miss her. A couple times a month, usually Sunday afternoon, I'd call to say "hi" and talk for a few minutes. I'll miss doing that today.

In 2022 I thought I'd write newsletters again. For myself and my business. I wrote and managed them for companies, taught small businesses how and why to use them. I've enjoyed the challenge of compiling, writing, editing, publishing. One of them is Burke's Bits. open.substack.com/pub/burkesbi...

My presentation was yesterday included how I write a story for email: get their attention, keep it short. "Holy wow I'm glad I ducked!" was the first line (after much editing). Today I'm getting LinkedIn connection requests that include "I'm glad you ducked!" Great copy works everywhere!
