I added some lines to the floor to make it a bit less plain

Earth Defense Force 4.1

EDF does this fantastic thing where it hands you these incredibly powerful weapons, including tanks and orbital strikes, while simultaneously making the enemy forces so overwhelming that every victory still feels like a struggle

Katabasis

This novel has a lot to say about the failings of academia, and this whole system that forces people to stress their bodies, deny themselves human comforts, and submit to the whims of all powerful advisors who don’t always respect best interests of students. Gave a lot to think about

Robin Hood

I've not seen this one since I was a kid, and it was an interesting revisit. The art is still lovely, and the character designs are great. It's easy to see why these characters and this art stuck with me all these years, even if the writing was very *fine*

They Hunger: Episode 1

This mod manages to take one of the less threatening enemies (zombies) and with clever level design, great atmosphere, and limited resources, they make them feel threatening and a bit scary. I definitely recommend checking this one out

Mouthwashing

I really liked this one. In particular, I think the nonlinear storytelling really helped to build a sense of dramatic irony, preserve ambiguity, and create some really great pacing. It is a character focused horror game, and I found that it left me with things to think about

Adios

This was a neat game about a man coming to terms with his life, and what redemption might look like for him, or if it is even possible. It's a pretty melancholy character study, but very interesting.

I really like the health couch. The couch is a symbol of reprice, of restoring one’s strength, and pairing it with the ludic health replenishment symbol is pretty neat

Pieces Like Us

This was a really cool Half Life mod set in an alternate timeline where human scientists and Xen aliens get along, and also there is some cool architecture, and anime girls.

Very neat mod

King Stephen

A cute little Pico-8 game. It kind of reminds me of Reigns with how your choices come back to make these cute little subplots. Definitely check it out

Bojack Horseman (Season 1)

I'm curious to see where the show goes after this first season. Bojack is very clearly a self centered, arrogant person who doesn't really consider how his actions will impact others, but I find the implication that hollywoo insulates him from true consequence interesting

Trimjob

Making golf more about covering a large area with your ball (or scissors in this case) is a really clever twist that feels very intuitive and changes how you think about your golf shots. It’s neat, so check it out

I Have No Mouth and I Mist Scream (short story)

One of the things I appreciated about this short story was how it really plays into the futility and stupidity of the Cold War. AM was the child of all the great powers, who sought only more power without any redeeming human qualities

The Enigma Machine

Continuing my Halloween of robot horror, I played this. It’s the sort of game that I definitely wouldn’t describe as perfect, but it had some really clever puzzles, and I am definitely interested in playing the studio’s later work

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream

I played this back in October, which ended up being a very “robot heavy” sort of Halloween. It was a really great time, and the vocal performances were all excellent.

As of today, I have released 12 games on itch, and I’m curious to which one is your favorite? They are all quite different from each other, and I’m curious to see which games stand out. If you haven’t played them yet, all of my games are quite short, and can be found on my itch page.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (GBC)

This is a product of spectacular ambition and spectacle, and that has to be enough to carry you through this game. I’m amazed that the devs attempted to bring TNN to GBC, and that it looks familiar if you squint, even though it does make big sacrifices

Metal Garden

The architecture absolutely steals the show. The game's single level designer was able to impart such a sense of scale, not just through the art direction, but also in the ways that the side paths just kept branching beyond all expectations. A masterwork in level design

Silent Hill

Overall, Silent Hill was a great time. There are some things that I wish the game conveyed better that caused me to waste a lot of time (I missed the rifle, I was stuck on the school for 3 hours because the piano wouldn’t open), but it’s best moments are quite tense

A really cute little game about exploring a level to find gems. Fighting enemies is simple, perhaps a little too simple, but if you completely master it you will never die. I died a lot, usually because I forgot what key moved me in what direction on the isometric keyboard
