The way I actually coped today was by starting to put a bit of legitimate research / thought into this, btw.

In a story where the main characters' prime motivation became fighting for true freedom through free will-a story in which the villain constantly manipulated their narrative and told them what was "supposed to" happen, and they defied it at every turn-this is the ultimate in-narrative warning. If the brothers were truly "finally free," as they say in the penultimate episode, then their fates shouldn't have been compelled by a "supposed to." Something went wrong, and Chuck wasn't actually defeated. The Supernatural finale is the work of a "cruel, cruel, capricious God". ... and you're meant to notice. But don't take my word for it; pay attention. Because the show told us what happened in-narrative and out-of-narrative, as loudly as it possibly could.
