Alone with my memories of my high school years

Reading about life, liberty and pursing happiness.

I am left to wonder where it all went.

Was inspired kind to my neighbor?
So, I keep reading, learning, and believing.
Working for a better world is my labor.

As i reflect on those memories
I wonder what happened.
Now I worry
When future generations trace
Their family trees,
When my name is spoken,
What will my legacy be?

American history brought up the
Boston Tea Party
And taxation without representation.
Lead by those rascals-
The Sons of Liberty.
Oh yeah, there is a tariff
Somewhere in there.

Mrs. Martin taught me that an Oxford commander
Goes right here,
And to stop switching my tenses.

Mrs. Fielding challenged my long
And wrong thinking.
Miss. Byrd tried her best to keep
My bread from sinking.

Wrong thoughts and the consequences
Of my actions.

Most thought Mrs. Herrington's 'and ahs'
Were an unnecessary distraction
But to me, they were a subtle hint
Exactly what the Three Fifths Compromise meant.

Mrs. Atkins beautifully read Shakespeare,
And challenged my run on sentences.
