Could you elaborate why what he said is wrong? To me it sounds like he’s saying Dems were terrible in combating the trans panic hysteria the Rs have been peddling because they’re always engaging from the losing position of taking the concerns seriously and meeting them in the middle.

We have retaliations implemented to pressure Trump to actually come to the negotiation table instead of going ahead with his plan.
But ultimately this is not a real solution and Trump is not the first or the last to try find new ways to squeeze a bigger profit margin from our existence.

If Canada agrees to the terms and the value of CAD increases due to USD reserve selling, we will lose what's left of our manufacturing sector.

My two cents:

All options laid out seem to eventually harm the working class across the globe. For instance if Canda just accepts the tarrifs we will have to devalue our currency making every Canadian's purchasing power lower.

Yanis believes Trump's plan will likely fail due to all the resistance from various internal and international forces.

Second phase of the trade war will be Trump pressuring other nations to increase their currency value either by exchanging their
USD reserves for their own currency. Or to swap their 3-5 year US treasury bonds for lower interest rate 100 year bonds.

Another bonus for Trump is that tarrif income would have less oversight from congress so Trump's administration can potentially spend without legislative approval.

This means initially further devaluation of the other currencies compared to USD and softening the initial price increase on US consumers.

Trump's team are counting on the first round of tarrifs causing trade partner nations to reduce interest rates to absorb the recession shock and affectively increasing inflation in these other countries.

To summarise his points:
Trump sees the shrinkage of the US manufacturing sector as a long term national threat.
He blames the US trading partners for keeping their own currency value low by holding high amounts of USD reserves in their central banks.
