I think this is my issue with the “kitchen sink” game, like Rifts (or how everyone decided to play DnD). For me, if the game is more like a toolset, fine. But when you have a setting and lore it doesn’t work as well for me.

😊 tbh the world is on fire and I just got depressed and wanted to hide inside and play video games

I think a lot of people think meta gaming is only “cheating,” like using their knowledge of the monster manual to trivialize encounters, when it encompasses a wide range of game behavior, some of it that makes the game more fun to play.

@finjico.bsky.social finished my second playthrough having saved everyone and made peace with the Gardeners. THANK YOU for a wonderful game

Yeah I can see that. I still think if that was the intent it could have been clearer because I forgot for most of the movie about that framing device 😂

I dunno, that doesn’t ring true to me. She’s in scenes where she’s the lead entry, right? If you’re following a character into a scene, by film logic it seems like you’re seeing things through their perspective.

Anyways, I could go on and on. Husband and I came up with multiple rewrites 😂

Yeah pick a focus in the story and cut what doesn’t fit with that focus IMO. It’s such rich material and you can take it in lots of different directions

THAT LINE. And they said it twice! 🙄
None of the characters’ motivations make sense. It just feels like too many ideas with none of them given enough attention to develop fully. I can see the glimmer of a better movie there, I think Del Toro needed a co-writer.

I hope so, because HARD AGREE. I think they did Elizabeth dirty, her character makes no sense. It’s disjointed and nonsensical in bits and feels like several different ideas haphazardly stitched together. But it is GORGEOUS.

The replayability/past life memories reinforce the themes is that every life has impact and that your choices can be incredibly consequential, even as a kid. Beautiful game.

Also, sexy alien 😏
3/3

The game mechanics do a wonderful job reinforcing the themes. If you want to get stronger as you get older, you need to give up childhood memories. Who knew a card game mechanic would be this deep? 2/3
