I absolutely get there are problems with the Irish system. But I also think Irish people don’t realise how bad things are in the US. Under the DPS here my whole family’s prescriptions are capped at €80 a month. When we lived in the US, with insurance, it was always hundreds and sometimes thousands.

On the other hand, they’ve known the route for at least five years and they’ve had at least 2-3 years notice and a few rounds of consultation to raise these concerns. If the solution was as simple as this MP statement makes it sound, TII would have changed it already and saved the cost of the CPO.

It’s like in the 1950s when suddenly people realised how much of an advantage height and wingspan were in basketball. (Or when there started to be enough money in basketball for people to care, I guess).

For some reason, when I saw it I didn’t realise it was a twist…not like I figured out what the twist was going to be, I just assumed that was what was happening from the get go and only figured out it was supposed to be a twist by the way the reveal was filmed.

There were public comment periods in 2018, 2019, and 2020, before the plans were finalised. Then there were two more once the final Railway Order was submitted, in 2022 and 2024.
