The Exorcist (Jeremy Slater), a show adaptation of the eponym movie. Season 2 was far better than the first imo but both were an entertaining watch. If you like catholic horror or the Conjuring saga, this might be for you. I personally watched for Alfonso Herrera (but stayed for the demons 🎃)

In the same category of slasher shows, Slasher (Aaron Martin) is an anthology, each season focused on a different killer, a different group of people, and a different setting. It is pretty fun, the kills are gore and bloody. You might not like every season the same, but it's a GREAT watch for fans.

Harper's Island (Ari Schlossberg) is a slasher show with a pretty self-contained season. It has that 2000s charm, the kills are great and the story is thrilling, even if the tropes and some of the twists are obvious. If you like the slasher subgenre, could be a fun watch for you.

Marble Hornets (Troy Wagner) is a webseries inspired by the Slenderman mythos. It is a found-footage show, with a very low budget but some great ideas, especially utilizing their medium specificity. It's been a while since I've watched it, but it definitely left a mark.

Wreck (Ryan J. Brown) is a british slasher series, sadly cancelled after 2 seasons. It's a pretty short watch, with great tension and kills. Season 1 was also quite funny, season 2 maybe more dramatic, still both were pretty fun. It's also very queer, which is always fun in horror.

Calls is a French show created by Timothée Hochet, adapted in the US by Fede Alvarez. Both shows seem narratively related. Basically, it's an audio show with interesting visuals complimenting the dialogues. Each episode focuses on a different story, but they all seem to tie together. Brilliant.

Pontypool (Bruce McDonald, 2010), another horror film where sound plays a big part: a zombie movie where you get infected with words and speech. It's an indie movie, so the plot is pretty self-contained but it's a really interesting take on this genre. Stephen McHattie really delivers.

Berberian Sound Studio (Peter Strickland, 2013) takes place in a postprod studio in Italy, where a sound engineer is tasked with the mixing of a giallo. It seems to slowly drive him mad. The movie has a strange pace but I just LOVE Toby Jones.

Lake Mungo (Joel Anderson, 2008) is a found-footage horror film that takes a documentary approach. I've watched it because it's Flanagan's favourite horror film. I get why. It feels like a drama, with a lot of heart and heartbreak. But the horror creeps in slowly, until that final twist.

Better Watch Out (Chris Peckover, 2017) is a horror comedy with a dark twist. Really loved how the tropes were turned on their own heads in this one. The cast understood the assignment and it's fun, it's bloody, it's horrifying, so a perfect watch for a scary movie night with friends 🔪

Pahanhautoja (or Egō by Hanna Bergholm, 2022) is a Swedish horror film. A first long-length feature about dysfunctional families and the pressure put on children- it's far from perfect, but it's got great body horror moments.

Dangerous Animals (Sean Byrne, 2025) is a recent Australian serial killer flick, with sharks. Solid B-movie, Jai Courtney is giving it his all and making it so much more enjoyable.

The Vigil (Keith Thomas, 2020) is one of my favs of the last few years. It's about death, mourning, but also religion, its institutions, rules and sometimes strange practices. It's nothing new, but the sobriety of the terror got me. Loved the lighting settings in this one too.

The First Omen (Arkasha Stevenson, 2024) is the recent prequel of the classic antichrist story The Omen ! Nell Tiger Free was amazing in Servant (great scary TV show) and she shines in this movie. A great prequel, but also a great film on its own. Strong religious symbols and horrors ✝️

Asylum Blackout (Alexandre Courtès, 2012) is not a very well-known flick, but a nice B (maybe C) movie to watch during Halloween. It taps into the scary setting of an asylum during a blackout, it feels like the horror stories we told each other as kids, but televised. Gore & dumb fun!

Aterrados (Demián Rugna, 2017) is an Argentinian horror film with strong imagery. There are some great, bone-chilling scenes in this one. The story gets a bit confusing towards the last act, but it's still a fantastic watch if you love supernatural horror.

I love Alien, so of course I loved watching Sputnik (Egor Abramenko, 2020), a russian scifi flick set during the Cold War. It's an interesting take and pov, and an enjoyable B-movie. Political tensions & a space creature! Could have been more fleshed out, but a good watch nonetheless.

Howl (Paul Hyett, 2015) is a low-budget, british horror movie. Stuck on a train on a fateful night, the passengers and staff are being hunted by a terrible creature. The concept is promising and the tension is high, and yet... [1/2]

In A Violent Nature (Chris Nash, 2025) is a peculiar slasher movie, filmed from the POV of the killer. It's a slow, quiet movie with outbursts of violence and gore. There is a tone, a vibe to it that I really liked. Probably not for everyone, but a great premise and execution. 🪝

I watched Exhuma (Jang Jae-Hyun, 2025) with some friends during a film festival, and we LOVED it. A bit long, but a great story of spirits, curses and deaths woven into Korean culture. Some wonderful performances, and a dread that lingers on for most part of the movie. A strong watch.

Strange Darling (JT Mollner, 2024) is a bloody movie, but it mostly flirts with the thriller genre rather than horror. Still, a very enjoyable watch for October! It subverts a lot of slasher tropes and Kyle Gallner is always a pleasure on screen. His duo with Willa Fitzgerald is great.

It's What's Inside (Greg Jardin, 2024) was a very good surprise. I don't know if I would call it a horror movie, but it's an unsettling watch for sure. The film questions your sense of self. The themes can feel existential at times. But it's also pretty fun and entertaining. ✌️

In Fear (Jeremy Lovering, 2013) is an indie horror film from the UK: Tom and Lucy are on their way to a music festival, but they keep getting lost on the back roads. A thin plot but a resourceful and beautifully-shot movie, with some horrors creeping up as the night goes on.

Train To Busan (Yeon Sang-ho, 2016) is one of the best zombie movies of the last 10 years imho 🧟 the action mostly takes place in a confined space (a train) and it really amps up the stakes. Gong Yoo is very touching as a once workaholic dad now trying everything to save his daughter. 💯

The Witch (or VVitch) by Robert Eggers (2016), feels so unique. It's set in 1630 and the movie really feels like it: the dialogues, the costumes, the themes are very 17th century. Religion, ignorance, devils and witches. Wonderful cinematography. Great horror tale. Anya Taylor-Joy 🧡
