Here to talk about Climate Change, Forensic Anthropology, books and other random stuff :)
And if you want to track your fics and also know how many books that would be, I might be working on something for you 🤫

Right now the first version is just about finished, and I'll probbly start looking for betatesters for this one soon, so keep an eye out for that :)

In the current version, you can keep track of everything you read, including an option to rate it,
you can set a reading goal for a bunch of things (books, minutes, fanfics, etc)
and it automatically calculates a rough translation between words, pages and minutes

Hey. That's how my brain works, too 😃😃
Very excited to see how all of this connects 😂😅

Just look at these pictures. I've done nothing with them, other than using a pol filter in the right and not the left... LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCES! THIS IS SO COOL!

And I have to say, I'm very happy with how this turned out. (Especially happy that the one with my normal lense (r) turned out well. That means I can just take some sun pictures in between and don't have to run around with my tele (l) all the time :D)

These past 24 days we've gone through climate science, looking at how bad it currently is, how much worse it could get and how we got here.
We looked at a few solutions, but for most of them implementation is slow and climate action seems far away.
So is there still hope?

There are many many more solutions and listing them all would take way too long. But to give you an example of what else is out there, we'll do another climate roulette.
Today this is based on @projectdrawdown.bsky.social's list of solutions

So now that we've looked at these possible solutions, let's look at a few things you can do.
Individual actions can play a part in climate action, but they can only be a small support for the necessary structural changes we need.

We talked a bit about nature based solutions, so let's go the other way today and have a look at some technologies we still need to develop further to make available more widespread. Some of them are useful, some of them may not be and some we might never fully develop.

So after we've managed to reduce the emissions from energy production, we would still have loads of CO2 in the air. And as we've seen, we don't just need net zero emissions, we actually need a way to take CO2 out of the atmosphere again.
Luckily nature can help with that

Let's actually start talking about the solutions now.
To slow down climate change we need to get rid of carbon emissions as fast as possible.
And the largest sector where we are generating these emissions right now is the energy sector.
So let's decarbonise that.

So. Here's the deal. It's obviously not looking good. And there is a need to act on climate change. The good news: we have the solutions ready. We know what to do and how to do it.
How? Well that's what we'll go through this last week.

Uh a picture :)
This is looking at projected pathways in CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions that are consistent with the Paris Agreement (1.5 (blue) and 2.0°C (green))
In red you also have the projections given all currently implemented policies.

Today is a quick filler episode with just random bits of climate information.
Here's how this works:
I have the summary report of the latest IPCC AR6 open. It's 186 pages. I'll generate a random page number from this and talk about that page. :)
Let's see how that goes

Climate Change is bad. I think this got a bit clearer over the past week or so. But it's not equally bad everywhere.
In fact, the countries with the highest historical emissions (=blame for climate change) are the ones that will feel the least impact. And vice versa.

We'll pick up where we left off yesterday, with some more tipping points.
As always this is mainly based on the PIK summary, linked again at the end of this :)

We did some 'light hearted' (only 250000 more deaths by 2050 because of climate change per year) impacts last post.
Today we're going to talk a bit about the tipping points in the climate system. And the potential feedback loops we could hit.

(Again sorry for the delay)
Okay so now that we have a rough understanding of how climate change prediction scenarios work let's have a look at a few of the possible impacts.
(This is going to be a 'positive' shortened version)
