We get accused of virtue signaling when we express our joy, or demonstrate kindness, by those who don't want to see people they don't like happy.

I finished reading Babel by R.F. Kuang. By chance, the book I finished before this one was A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine.

The two books are completely different but in a way so so similar. Both are about empire, language, and survival through assimilation.
