Feeling a bit of GM burnout. Trying something new in my current campaign. A real world deadline, if the party don't achieve their aims in 2 sessions, the big bad wins. The in game timeline is more collaborative and the players can make decisions without me railroading to force an ending.

How is it that I can take 2 boardgames out of a tightly packed cupboard, and then when putting them back in, they either won't fit at all, or there's suddenly a large gap?

There's an added anxiety DMing homebrew content, because no matter how much effort you put I to balancing that amazing monster BBEG, until you put it in front of your players, you have no idea what's going to happen.

Me "Oh, are you not feeling-"
Queue shower, change of clothes, and an inordinate amount of kitchen roll

Having a conversation with my toddler, and our level of comprehension is probably on par with when I try to use what I've learned on Duolingo talking with a Spaniard.
