Here is an event study of the effect of being a county that loses at least 2% of its housing stock on the (log) number of suicides by month. We estimate that roughly 10 people are indirectly killed by wildfires in the six-month aftermath of these events.

Fires like Woolsey, Camp, and Palisades, kill people and destroy property. The destruction of property tends to be complete, these fires burn hot enough to wreck wood-burning stoves. Many survivors are displaced from their homes, friends, and jobs.
