Husband, father, physician, overall angry 40-something ex-optimist.

My cantankerous views do not represent the views of any organizations with which I am affiliated.
Holy cow, I had convinced myself that Larry McMurtry was a less bleak modern western writer compared to Cormac McCarthy. I had forgotten how nihilistic the end of Lonesome Dove was. But what a phenomenal novel. Lived up to my memory of it. 10/10 no joke

Yeah, especially because the last movie I saw with Paul Mescal was Aftersun. What’s this guy’s deal with making middle aged men weep uncontrollably?

As a dad who loves my kids more than anything else, both of these gutted me

Dish Boggett, Newt, July Johnson and Roscoe, Pea Eye, Josh Deets!! How the hell do you write a story to get me so emotionally invested in so many characters with insane names? I love this book so much.

I am literally 50 pages from finishing it again, the first being about 20 years ago. I am floored with how it completely lives up to how much I loved it the first time. (dogs also seem to like it)

My one ask today as a veteran and one of your constituents living in Tucson is that you get Schumer out. He was either complicit in caving or can’t lead the caucus. Either way an opposition party needs stronger leadership than he can muster. Thanks!

My grandfather spent his life in shipping in the Great Lakes (40s until retirement in the 80s). He retired captaining ferry boats to Mackinac Island (Star Line!). I never appreciated until recently how dangerous it could be

Such an under-the-radar incredible show. Just finished second rewatch. My hand down favorite moment (depending on the day) is when they get into a fight in Paris, and Gregory (HR) starts it off by cold cocking a dude after yelling “trains, motherfucker!” Just brilliant little touches

Gonna make calculating QALY difficult when those extra years are working in the factory until your mid-80s

Sure, but they really seem to care about the fans in Las Vegas (sorry, Oakland)

Ohtani’s annual salary is just slightly below the salary for all active Brewers players this year. I hate being a small market baseball fan.

Cassidy is an opportunist who sold out his principles as a physician to approve RFK. Do you really think he’s going to answer that question honestly?

As a fellow veteran, this story infuriates me so much. This young man served his country, only to be assaulted and have his rights trampled because these racists ICE chuds don’t think he looks “American“ enough. So depressing

He’s right, there are so many other characters to choose from … like Falcon, Luke Cage, Black Panther, um … Storm, Bishop … hmm … Blade (this dude‘s a racist)

So glad I checked the alt text - makes the image hit that much harder

It is. I’m now NOT convinced that we’re not in a construct where the programmers are like, “holy shit, I guess turn the absurdity level up to 250% and see if they start catching on?”

Haha. My mind immediately also went to the Dorian Gray. See, a literature major really can come in useful

Somewhere there is a youthful portrait of this moron moldering away in a forgotten closet

Iron Clad Lou off this album rightly gets a lot of praise, but this song right here is my jam!

These hacks were all handpicked by RFK to undermine confidence in vaccination. These predictable, non-evidence based changes are just the first step towards restricting access to vaccines for everyone.

I had to skip it after almost losing my mind watching the first zombie-ACIP meeting

Know what? In 2004 I probably would have piled on this Peter Pan fan like everyone else. But now that I’m in my mid40s, I just see a guy with a huge grin living his best life and not caring what people think. Good for him.
