Wooly Spikes (Chroogomphus species) are Bolete relatives that grow parasitically on Slipper Jacks (Suillus species). They turn a beautiful shade of purple when exposed to a basic (high pH) solution (10% w/v) of Potassium Hydroxide (KOH). Pretty cool #mycolgy

Happy Fungus Friday from this perfectly toothy Lions Mane (Hericium erinaceus). These are white rot saprotrophs (decay mushrooms). It is one of my favorite edible mushrooms, but the supposed health benefits are WAY overblown by supplement companies, don't buy into their snake oil BS. #mycology

Found a beautiful pale morel, not sure if this is a true blonde morel (possible Morchella tridentina) or just an albino burn/ black morel. Had fun foraging up in the foothills of California! Morels are super tasty mushrooms with an amazing spongy meaty texture. #morel #morels #morchella
