Additionally we are now seeing the GOP internally considering raising taxes on the wealthy. I believe this to be a strong indication that policy decisions are not being made on an ideological basis, but rather a national security basis. This will be a totalitarian whole of nation effort to win.

The United States is reestablishing a permanent military presence around the canal zone, on a “rotational basis” so as to skirt treaty obligations that insist the canal may be freely accessed by any country engaging in free trade. Free trade is over, and supply lines will have to be militarized.

Greenland and Canada probably won’t be outright seized (though nothing would surprise me). We will probably ignore sovereignty and project power from these places and they will accept this because frankly, they have no choice. Look to Panama- despite treaty obligations to the contrary…

This in turn will lead to the alliance hardening over the coming years where we will find ourselves in a new cold war, and undeniably so. We will use our position to coerce allies into remaining within our trading and defense block.

This isn’t to say that there aren’t better approaches. There’s been buzz about China as the new stable trading partner for Europe. I think ultimately US allies will be forced to accept the decoupling agenda as well due to
Intense defense integration that already exists with the US/NATO.
