I think the literature on intergroup contact is a good example. Initial meta-analyses of correlational work and small sample lab studies offer a very optimistic outlook, but recent large-scale RCTs draw a more complex picture....

Our lab partnered Gov Cox & @natlgovsassoc.bsky.social to test their Disagree Better initiative. Their PSAs showed positive impacts in our field experiment (w/ @chagaiweiss.bsky.social & Don Green).

We also found in survey experiments that ppl liked and supported the govs in the videos across party lines and among strong partisans

These results show you *can* succeed in American politics - on Left and Right - by showing basic decency for those you disagree with

Then, as chair of @natlgovsassoc.bsky.social, Gov Cox recruited govs to film bipartisan endorsements of civility, nonviolence, and "disagreeing better." In a field RCT, we found these videos increased interest in pro-bipartisan orgs and openness to convos with those they disagree with politically
