It might be wishful thinking but it just feels like something special could happen tonight in the deciding game of an ALDS that’s taking place almost 30 years to the date of the most famous moment in Mariners history (& still the greatest sports moment I’ve ever seen live!). #RefusetoLose 🤞

& that it’s a team coached by Dan Wilson, who i watched at catcher so many times for the Mariners growing up, and now features an mvp *catcher* who somehow became only the 7th player ever to hit 60 HR in a season too, well, it’s all pretty wonderful & @jonbois.bsky.social please do a chapter on this

I found this out doing research for my Bringing Out the Dead piece last year (Scorsese’s next film after Kundun), but I also lived through it when I couldn’t find a theater to see it when it was released in 1997 (without knowing the context). It sucked and it still sucks—justice for Kundun!

It's been five years since I watched the entire thing twice in a year—in the middle of 2020/lockdown—but i still think THE LEFTOVERS explans just about everything about everything and I probably have that thought at least twice every day
