Really though? “A political crisis?” What does that even mean? He has nothing to say here.

Oh no, don’t ask for prosecution of people who break the law, that’s terrorist rhetoric!

Duh. That’s something the left inherently understands. Evil acts can be committed by any party affiliation. That’s why we want to Epstein list release even if it has Bill Clinton on it.

But when every quality journalist moves behind their own $10/mo Substack it forces readers to make choices that reduce their own information diet while also concentrating the monetary flow into a smaller and smaller number of just the most popular.

I think ad-funded model worked fairly well going back to broadcast radio, but it's not without problems.

With aggregators and AI absorbing the work and regurgitating it, ads don't work anymore.
September 14, 2025 at 3:26 PM
Fair enough. I might as well simply lament "why capitalism?" And the answer is that you just have to do it.

I wish journalists received more, simply on the merits. At the same time, I see larger forces making journalism untenable from every direction.
September 14, 2025 at 3:26 PM
Haha yes well I'm inviting you into a broader question about whether journalism as a business is working and healthy. I'm saying it's not your fault for having to charge a fee, but at the same time, when the quality work is behind a paywall, the masses move to tweets. Any reflections?
September 14, 2025 at 3:03 PM
Why? I mean, I understand that journalists need to eat.

But I want to know why information that’s critical to the functioning of our society is something that every individual needs to plan a budget around.

Why is society a for profit business?

Political violence is NOT good, and as a leading peddler of it, the world is better without him. We should not glorify the violence that he fomented or the violence that brought his end, but I will not shed tears for the violence that ended a platform for fanning its flames.

I think what really disturbs you is that you see yourself in Kirk, and it makes you afraid of the repercussions of your own power.

Far-reaching persuasion IS power, and you cannot have a peaceful democracy when people are played for pawns in a game of polarizing violence.
September 12, 2025 at 11:14 PM
You glorify the power of Kirk's platform without regard to its social effects and rebuke society about the indifference to its violent end. You encourage confusing powerful platforms of persuasion for the expression of personal beliefs.

It’s as if Klein intends to say,
“He may have fomented violence by calling for public executions and bussing people to an insurrection, but this is exactly right, because he mobilized them with his words.”
September 12, 2025 at 7:36 PM
When you truly understand who Kirk was as a societal force, Klein’s piece exposes the disgustingly cynical position of the attention-economy influencer class — that politics is a business for attention farming, everything is unserious, and people with platforms carry no responsibility.

Every single article that’s not about Epstein, ICE, or Gaza is a betrayal to the American people.

Not if we’re too broke to feed ourselves or go to the doctor. Entrepreneurialism works well when there are social safety nets to catch us. We’re currently throwing them all away.
August 13, 2025 at 4:57 AM
Our only hope now is organizing, protest, and non-compliance. But things are gonna get really tough. We’re in for a level of Gestapo policing that most Americans can’t even imagine.

Who wants to bet the NRA is going to try to sell conservatives on giving up their guns lol
August 13, 2025 at 4:32 AM
Yes, but the reality is that even AR-15s are toys compared to everything the National Guard is equipped with. The 2nd Amendment was written for the era of muskets and cannons — not tanks and drones.
August 13, 2025 at 4:27 AM
I bet he’s going to try to find a way to make this “emergency” last more than 30 days. He’s trying to consolidate power around para-military groups. He wants a Gestapo. ICE is already doing his bidding, but he wants to work deeper into the cracks of the cities so they cannot resist.
August 13, 2025 at 4:07 AM
Trump can do anything that people don’t actively resist. That’s the sad truth.
