It's pretty undeniable. Black women (and men) are being hit particularly hard by job loss. Just look at that climb.

Black women's unemployment rate in August (6.7%) is the highest in four years.

Many Head Start providers would love to return to a time when Head Start wasn’t political. Others feel like the mission of Head Start — to protect those most in need — has moved them to speak up at a time when those communities are being targeted.

One story that stood out to me was Sarah Kasnick. A child in her care was on that waitlist. The child has autism and is nonverbal — no daycare in the area would take her.

Since Nicolle was detained, Kasnick quit her job bc she can't find care.

Nicolle was detained at a routine ICE appt that she's been going to at least monthly for a year. She had no criminal record. And she thought she was doing everything right, taking classes and getting licensed to open her own center.

She was taken into custody with her husband and two young sons.

Nicolle's speciality was working with children who have disabilities. It's a job in deep shortage; one few Americans want to take on.

The high rate of unemployed Black women is also concerning because Black women tend to remain unemployed for longer than other workers. In June, the average time Black women spent unemployed before they found a job was more than six months — the longest duration of any group.
