Coronation RCMP cautions public on online conduct during by-election County of Paintearth, Alta. - As a by-election unfolds in Eastern Alberta, the Coronation RCMP is reminding the public about the importance of respectful and lawful conduct, both in person and online. In recent days, several candidates have reported receiving negative and, in some cases, potentially threatening commentary on social media platforms. While Canadians are entitled to express their opinions, even those critical of political figures, threats or comments that cross the line into criminal conduct will be taken seriously. Uttering threats, including online or through social media, is a criminal offence under Section 264.1 of the Canadian Criminal Code. This includes threats to cause bodily harm, death, or damage to property. Individuals found making such threats may be subject to investigation and could face criminal charges. Coronation RCMP encourages all members of the public to engage respectfully during the democratic process. We also ask those affected by threatening comments to preserve evidence, such as screenshots, and report concerning incidents to police. Anyone with information or concerns is asked to contact Coronation RCMP at 403-578-3666 or call the RCMP non-emergency line at 310-RCMP (7267) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. An Edmonton-area teen has been arrested and charged with terrorism-related offenses
May 29, 2025 Alberta youth arrested for terrorism-related offence Edmonton – On May 12, 2025, the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) in Alberta arrested a 15-year-old Edmonton area youth for a terrorism-related offence. The youth was remanded into custody and the RCMP has commenced proceedings against the youth by way of a terrorism peace bond, pursuant to s. 810.011 of the Criminal Code – Fear of terrorism offence. INSET investigators fear the youth will commit terrorism offences related to the COM/764 violent online network. The 764 network is a transnational online ecosystem of violent online predators who routinely lure youth, particularly those in vulnerable sectors, and encourage them to commit sexual acts, self-harm, and the torture of animals. Elements of The Com/764 network are known to have extreme ideological views and are victimizing children through desensitizing and radicalizing them to violence. The youth is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on June 3, 2025. The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents any further release of information regarding this individual. We are well aware that there is large and growing number of Albertans that have lost hope in Alberta having a free and prosperous future as a part of Canada. Many of these Albertans are organizing petitions to trigger a citizen-initiated referendum, as I mentioned earlier. The vast majority of these individuals are not fringe voices to be marginalized or vilified - they are loyal Albertans. They are quite literally our friends and neighbours who have just had enough of having their livelihoods and prosperity attacked by a hostile federal government. They are frustrated - and they have every reason to be. 85 per cent of Canadians in this last election voted for the two leaders promising to turn Canada into an energy superpower and to build resource corridors, including for oil and gas - while only 13 per cent voted for the fringe voices in the socialist NDP and Bloc parties and their extremist “leave it in the ground” policies.

Premier’s Office Budget Mr. Sinclair: Mr. Speaker, given that industry is strong in my riding of Lesser Slave Lake, you’d think that people in northern Alberta would be benefiting from their hard work, but this Premier’s bloated budget has made them feel like she takes their support, trust, and votes for granted. Given how now it’s being reported that her out-of-control spending has spilled into her own office, with a carpet renovation that would make former Premier Redford blush, to the Premier: do you think spending a quarter million dollars to roll yourself out on a red carpet every day is a responsible way of spending taxpayers’ money when you run Trudeau-style deficits? The Speaker: The hon. Minister of Finance. Mr. Horner: Yeah. Happy to take a budget question, Mr. Speaker. Haven’t had many since it was passed. I would say that Budget ’25 is a tough budget in a tough time, a growing province, 4.4 per cent population growth. We’re doing all that we can to build as many schools as quickly and efficiently as possible, you know, still while protecting our industries and encouraging new investments. I think it’s the right budget for right now: a large contingency, a tax cut to address affordability. The Speaker: The hon. Member for Lesser Slave Lake. Mr. Sinclair: Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Given that highways and health care are the responsibility of the province and given, like a tale as old as time for northern Alberta, we watch another Premier spend lavishly on wants instead of needs and given there are now reports that this Premier spent up to $300,000 on china for the Government House in Edmonton – I don’t know if that figure includes the grey stuff; I heard it’s delicious; if you don’t believe me, ask the dishes – to the Premier: don’t you think this kind of luxurious spending sends the wrong message to everyday Albertans when we can’t get highways and health care? Mr. Horner: Mr. Speaker, I agree that w… affordability crisis in northern Alberta; there’s one across the entire province. But it would seem that the Member for Lesser Slave Lake is only concerned about his own personal interests, and that is why he’s bringing bully tactics into this Chamber. I believe it’s unbecoming of a member of this Chamber. It’s unfortunate. I tell you what, we are concerned about all Alberta. We’re concerned about a strong province, a strong country, and that’s why we fight every day for it.

Some more info on the executive order about tariffs on Canadian goods

For Canada and Mexico, the existing fentanyl/migration IEEPA orders remain in effect, and are unaffected by this order. This means USMCA compliant goods will continue to see a 0% tariff, non-USMCA compliant goods will see a 25% tariff, and non-USMCA compliant energy and potash will see a 10% tariff. In the event the existing fentanyl/migration IEEPA orders are terminated, USMCA compliant goods would continue to receive preferential treatment, while non-USMCA compliant goods would be subject to a 12% reciprocal tariff.

The policy on meal trays in EDs made clear that front-line staff can still request snacks or meals for individuals who need them. The policy ensured patients who require food will continue to have appropriate food options available to them, which may include sandwiches, juice and other snacks items depending on the site, in addition to the meal trays. As you noted, these changes are about limiting food waste and ensuring available food goes to the patients who require it. The policy was not intended for implementation until April 1, so any communication to patients or their families about the potential impacts was premature. For instance, the intent of the policy was never to withhold items such as popsicles or ginger ale that were needed to support care. Patient care remains our top priority and the policy ensured food continues to be provided based on clinical needs.

A fair deal for Alberta The Fair Deal Panel consulted tens of thousands of Albertans through in-person town hall meetings, an online survey, and stakeholder interviews to get input on how best to define and secure a fair deal for Alberta. The panel submitted its final report to government in May 2020. It recommended numerous ways to ensure Alberta has a strong voice in Confederation, including fairer funding allocations from Ottawa, better representation for Alberta in the House of Commons, and exploration of an Alberta Pension Plan and Alberta Police Force. I looked so you don't have to, so if anyone is interested, here is a statement from Premier Danielle Smith.
Danielle Smith @ABDanielleSmith Alberta joins with other Premiers in calling for a First Ministers meeting with the Prime Minister as soon as possible to discuss the recent escalation in the trade dispute with the U.S. In addition, we ask all Premiers and the federal government to respond to these unjustified U.S. tariffs in a proportional and level-headed manner. Millions of Canadian jobs are at stake and we owe it to Canadian families to find a solution that results in all tariffs being lifted on both sides of the border as soon as possible. I have been in Houston this week speaking with U.S. Administration officials and energy industry leaders, and literally everyone we speak with wants to de-escalate this trade dispute, work through and resolve outstanding trade irritants and get back to building a mutually beneficial trade relationship. I will be speaking with the Council of the Federation tomorrow about this issue, and will be advocating for a measured and proportional response going forward that focuses on de-escalating this dispute on both sides of the border.

Despite the fact that Canada is charging the USA from 250% to 390% Tariffs on many of our farm products, Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on “electricity,” of all things, and your not even allowed to do that. Because our Tariffs are reciprocal, we’ll just get it all back on April 2. Canada is a Tariff abuser, and always has been, but the United States is not going to be subsidizing Canada any longer. We don’t need your Cars, we don’t need your Lumber, we don’t your Energy, and very soon, you will find that out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!
