I make a Data Sources Catalog for every project I work with and I can't tell you how often the project team refers to this document to remember what measures are being collected and when. I highly recommend summarizing your plan in a simple format like this.

A Friday morning reminder to always review your raw data before you start using it (check variable types, counts, summary stats, etc.) so that you can catch fun things like rows that have been shifted. 😉

I recently came across this image and it’s a great way to summarize how I feel about my work. Whether supporting other consultants through resources or referrals, or supporting people in their data management work, helping to lift other people up benefits us all.

Original dplyr code

I was writing some code using #rstats dplyr to check some hand calculated values and then I was like, what am I doing? I'm not lame. I'm using genzplyr! 💅

Stop being a lame-o and replace dplyr with the more slappin genzplyr.

Many research teams still collect paper forms and when it comes to entering data from those forms, there are a series of decisions to be made (and documented) to ensure that data is entered accurately and in a secure and standardized way.

I came here to say this exact same thing. If you want more traditional rounding behavior, use can use janitor::round_half_up().

About 100 new subscribers per month. For some that might not seem like much, but for this little free passion-project newsletter of mine, I think that's pretty awesome. 🌟

Right now! @jadeynryan.bsky.social is doing such an awesome job walking us through using the {fs} package to work with files, with bonus Halloween content! @r-ladies-stl.bsky.social

If you're looking for examples of how to organize a data sharing repository, what documentation to include, how to name files, or how to organize data files, the FIDO (fictitious intervention for demonstration only) project on OSF provides some examples.

Instead, consider thinking through how you can integrate data management into the workflow of your project so that when you are ready to use your data, your data is ready for you.

DMPs require you to broadly consider roles and responsibilities in a project (who is generally in charge of data collection, documentation, validation, privacy). But beyond that, it's beneficial to plan more specifically for who will oversee tasks throughout a project.
