That's something I could see myself doing. A couple times. Then going, "Wait, they did this a lot, maybe it was on purpose?"

How much would you shell out to get him to stop?

Indeed. And in winter in the mountains you don't even need to be a complete idiot to get in serious trouble. I know I've done a few things that I've looked back on and gone, "Well that was close," even after going over the risks.

I was going to give a quick warning about being careful with winter hikes but looking at your profile I'm guessing you don't need it. :-) Good luck finding someplace.

I'm a big fan of the Adirondacks and Vermont. Both have plenty of places you can go without a guide but I do recommend trail guides. And places in town that you can get close to nature. Are you looking at doing winter hiking?

Which means there’s a real difference between reading a book you have, buying a new copy of a book, and going to an event by someone. And, for those with the ability, giving them new contracts that give them some sort of authority (either literal or fandom).

Fair point. Anyone that follows things know but there are a lot of people that don’t. This would be a one shot kind of thing too since he’s unlikely to do other interviews afterwards. Although, didn’t Swam do an interview like this with him?

I don't think the result would actually be news either. Everyone knows he doesn't know how things work. Should it be disqualifying? Would it get under his skin? Yes. But him not knowing wouldn't be any more news than a bear getting into garbage. Good for a laugh or a head shake and move on.

It took being a parent for me to realize some of the annoying things I do. “This thing my kids do is really annoying. Where did they get that fro……oh, oh no.”

I was actually thinking of the foodraiser. I’ll betting you could put $13k in food to good use.
August 3, 2024 at 10:44 PM
I bet @gregdoucette.bsky.social could spend that much in food stamps a month but I don’t know anyone else who can.

That’s dedication to voting. If you haven’t already I would talk with someone to make sure you can push off what the advanced directive says. Since it’s a legal document I’m not sure how flexible it is and don’t want more frustration for you in what would be a hard time already.

Didn’t that have bunch of maple syrup stolen from it at some point? As in truckloads of syrup.

Building character as a kid is important and going through hard things, even very hard things, with caring adults to help is a big part of that. The rub is, caring adults don't force kids to go through hard things. There are other ways to start and hard things will come along on their own.

I'm not surprised. Any time you give a role power you're also attracting people who want to abuse that power to the role.

And so many IT staff that dealt with this don't have accounts with Crowdstrike so I'm not even sure who in our org got this.
July 24, 2024 at 4:46 PM
My first reaction was that it had to be a scam because the cost for any org that dealt with this is so far over $10 that there's no way someone could think this is anyone other than insulting.

Is that based on places like Russia that have a reputation for suppressing speech or also places that don't have that reputation? I wouldn't be surprised if the trajectory is the same, just at different rates.

Writers don't make anything. They keep us sane. Or drive us insane, depending.

No no no. They want to deport mass. America is too fat. They want to make America thin again.

<sarcasm>You see, the goal of DEI is to make everyone, even white people, hate white people. </sarcasm> I imagine that's how they sell it but honestly, the DEI stuff I've been through hasn't been like that in the least.

The chance of failure of tech is too high for me to rely on as my sole map. If a paper map falls in a river it should still be at least mostly readable. That being said, if you study the trail ahead of time and know how to get out without any map (even mental) any map is good enough.

Thank you, I wasn't really sure. I've been saying for a while that Trump isn't really the problem, he's just serving his crowd and if he doesn't live up to their expectations he loses them.

It also assumes that his followers won’t fall away if he shifts tone. Didn’t he get booed at a rally of his for suggesting people wear masks or something along those lines?
