All right. So I’m back on this BlueSky thingy because X is chock-full of bots, and I just can’t stand it. How do I use this? Do I just say stuff? How’s the algorithm?

[Potentially] perfect for fans of:

-H.P. Lovecraft
-Thomas Ligotti
-Clark Ashton Smith
-Algernon Blackwood
-Robert Aickman
-William Hope Hodgson
-John Langan
-Matthew M. Bartlett
-early-career Stephen King

It’s also really short.

Voting for the top 32 in Books of Horror’s Indie Author Brawl is right now. If you’re a member, & you think a cosmic horror novel sounds good (think Get Out meets The Thing), please consider voting for NATIVE FEAR. I will also send y’all a paperback—if I make it to top 32, and if you live in the US.

Author spotlight: Brian Evenson

Brian Evenson is easily one of the greatest writers of prose in modern horror (and sci-fi).

Have you read Evenson?

If so, what’s your favorite work by him?

My sci-fi cosmic horror novelette's out now! Follow the Iink beIow!

"Black Mirror meets Blade Runner, INEVITABILITY throws you into a world where memories can be modified, reality is unreliable, and discovering the truth is more dangerous than finding it."

Voting applicable only to Books of Horror members (on Facebook). If you’re not a member, and you’re a fan of horror, you should definitely join the group. It’s a great way to find horror novels and indie authors who are making a splash.

The Brawl is a big deal because it gives power to the reader.

Does any other writer out there get anxious because you don’t know if you should write a new story or start editing a previous story?

That’s my current dilemma. I feel guilty not writing new material, but I simultaneously feel guilty neglecting a previous story.

That’s probably a me problem.

Great blurb from @ivygrimes.bsky.social.

The Swallowed Town is expected to be released at the end of the year by @nwreader.bsky.social, and I can't wait for everyone to delve down this strange, dark rabbit hole.

Twin Peaks, The Leftovers, Severence…

Why are these the ONLY high-quality weird TV shows I can think of?

What are your top 5 cosmic horror books, films, video games, and/or TV shows?

(I’m pretty sure I’ve read, watched, and played everything there is [i.e., of high quality], but I’m always looking for things I’ve missed.)

A well-written but underwhelming collection of character-centric fiction. While there was some True Detective DNA in the drama and some dialogue, I am a bit perplexed that the stories within this collection are devoid of anything resembling the genre Pizzolatto is known for in TV.

It’s been a minute since I’ve promoted my debut novel, Native Fear. Here’s some praise. (Oh, and the SCREAM Magazine review was a 5-star rating.)

Iain Reid meets Shirley Jackson, “Star Shapes” is a terrific debut novella by @ivygrimes.bsky.social. Clean prose, taut storytelling. 4.5/5

Some Will Not Sleep by Adam Nevill just may be the most unnerving collection I’ve ever read. Great prose and fundamentally effective horror. 5/5
