I would argue (biasedly) that it’s the last mainstream platform where discussion can be had and moderation is dependent on the subject instead of blanket rules (outside TOS).
It has its issues naturally. But it has a head start in the community aspect of social.

Great article. But you missed a whole layer on the amateur level with things like the Football Canada Cup, IFAF World Juniors, U18 Women’s National Championship, etc.
So much of Canada’s football infrastructure is underneath everything you listed and deserves some investigation!

My advice for people who find value in social media is to seek out a community for your very special interest and immerse yourself in it.
You will remember why you love interacting and conversing with people when you’re not constantly shoved random extremist content in tandem with your interests.

Instagram: their core user base does not post anymore. The user base they’re trying to court rejects them for a wide variety of (valid) reasons

Why?
Your algorithms are now not working in your favour. If you don’t have a space for your most hardcore fanbases to exist and connect free from outside distractions, you very easily either lose control of your narrative or have to compromise your brand/creative vision to fit the guardrails.
